Whose Voice Do We Follow?

One of the most interesting things about human beings is the way in which we imitate each other. The tendency is at its strongest during the teenage phase of our lives. Who we imitate is usually determined by the people we hang around. This is why we have the saying that “someone is rubbing off on you”.

If we are around people that are motivated and goal oriented, we develop those qualities, but if we socialize with those who are complacent with no desire to improve, we find ourselves being stagnant. So the question to ask ourselves is “Who are we hanging out with”.

To lose weight successfully it’s important that we surround ourselves with an environment conducive to that objective. This means the people we around hanging around with. I can attest to this personally.

My life started in a nice middle class family. I was good kid in elementary school and had a host of positive little friends. My family life was stable. Over some time, my mother became ill with diabetes and was hospitalized. I was then taken care of by my older sister. This was not a good thing.

Not having a positive male role model to base my attitude and behaviors on, I began to gravitate towards the tough kids that I admired because of their seeming power and independence. Needless to say, by associating with these types of individuals, I began to take on their attitudes and behavior. This led me down the wrong path. Fortunately, I was able to recover by getting a college education and learning enough skills to become a productive member of society.

The same rule applies when it comes to losing weight and staying healthy. If we are in association with people who are negative towards exercise, eating healthy, and committing to a course of action leading in the direction we want to go, then we have to ask ourselves some serious questions.

Over a period of time, I have discovered that the primary voice to listen to is deep down within each and every one of us. It knows the course of action we need to take and gently nudges us toward that path. Exercise programs and diets are only tools. They are not the voice.

It is ultimately up to each individual as to what voice we choose to follow. Will it be the ones we imitate and serve to keep us where we are at? Or, will it be the one that guides us home?

I love your post,

You know what, I am actually working on something right now for the health and wellness industry that is based around these principals....

Anyways,

To add, there are prodominately 4 different types of people:

People that add to you
People that add to you, have the ability to make you think you can achieve more, be more and the chances are with this sort of thinking you probably will!

People that multiply you
You ever feel like you got so much done because you were in such a motivated state? - Well, this is what multiplying people can do, you can speak to them for 20 seconds and you walk away more motivated and ready to take on the world.

People that subtract from you
Victims of life that want you to be compassionate constantly in their company. Yes, compassion is important, but so is LIFE!!!!!! Deal with the compassion, then move forward.

People that divide you
You ever left a sick puppy at home? - I have experienced certain people in my life that when I leave them I feel like I need to be there with because they are not going to make it on their own, I feel less about myself and eventually less confident about who I am.

There is more to the above but I am sure you get the idea of it all. : )

Thanks again for the post and if you want to be fit and healthy, then surround yourself with fit and healthy people!!!

Yours in success,

Pete
