Which Martial Art?

I used to do budokan(not sure of the spelling) karate and i would really like to get back into some form of martial arts because it really helped me in many other sports, can anyone suggest an athletic style of martial arts?

Athletic? What would be your idea of an athletic vs a non-athletic?

i guess you mean somethin like kung fu or wushu
i dont see anything more athletic than that.....lol

or maybe taekwondo if i get you right
and not to forget cappoeira from Brazil if that available in your area

Sorry i wasn't very clear, i'm looking for a martial art which you have to be very strong and fast for and a lot of big movements, i was thinking about taekwondo.

I'm actually moving soon to go to uni and i've looked at thier sports union and they have aikido, judo, karate and tae kwon do

Look into Judo or BJJ for practical application. Muay Thai is great too, or even just good old Western Boxing.

i thought it was very different in style too? i know its Japanese:p but ive always looked at the BBJ as more grappling on the floor, we try not to get taken to the floor, but to take the other bastard to the floor and then put a knee on his neck and hold is harm some kind of "easy to break" position. but hey, im only a white belt:p

Paul, among the options you have and what you said you'd like, I'd go with tkd, or another various style with lots of kicking. Kicking takes a lot of energy you see, and well, that's what you want, right? High intensity, high energy.

But really, I would take ALL of those. Lol. Don't be picky, do everything.

yeah, if you want something for practical use if you ever get yourself into a street fight, jujitsu and a striking art would be GREAT!:p you would probobly be able to get out of a lot of complicated situationes

Thanks that's the kind of thing i was looking for

Here's a Martial Art that pretty much no one mentions, Jeet Kon Do. Introduced by the very famous Bruce Lee. Yet another athletic Art here Karky, go for it ! My personal advise.

Lol, dude. It's Jeet Kune Do. Where/who are you learning from? Like I said before, JKD is typically a philosophy, not a standradized style. However, it's recently been brought to my attention that The Tao of Jeet Kune Do outlines the foundations that is a style. Although Bruce Lee was hesitant to come out and just call it a MA. But, that doesn't matter, cause it can fall under the category, depending on how you look at it.

The key difference is, JKD is not standardized at all. The instruction tends to be poor, due to this fact...But, if it's good for you, then I guess everything's gravy.

Though...if you do indeed have extensive training in both kickboxing and judo, I don't understand why you are so impressed with JKD.

Its a very defensive art, packs some seruisly deadly punches, besides all its yet hard to learn, and needs good physicality. That's why I do it, thats why I love it.
