Whey Protein ?

So i was thinking about taking this daily food intake.

My plans are to slim down which is why ive been doing an hour of cardio a day ( mostly crosstrainer and cycling and sometimes swimming).

Along with cardio ive been lifting. i do lifting for 3 straight days and then take a day off. I mostly do chest, biceps, triceps and shoulders.

I wanted to ask anyone with experince if they think i should start taking some for the lifting or just wait till i get to my ideal weight which is 175. Or if the whey protein will not have an effect on the weight loss.

thanks in advaced

P.s im currently at 217.

A lot of it depends on your overall diet; most people get enough protein through whole foods. For someone who is lifting, approx. 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day, is plenty. However, protein shakes are an easy way to get your pre- and/or post- workout protein, without feeling bloated during your workout. So it really depends on what works best for you.

I would recommend making sure that you have a recovery day in between your lifting days and make sure you don't neglect your legs!

Thanks,

Well i actually just changed it too two days of lifting and a day off.

Ive been thinking of starting to do legs but i think i might wait a little longer until i start to see some kind of result from the upper body lifting.

Oh and btw i dont do free weights ive just been doing machines since im not trying to get big.

Would you suggest i do upperbody one day and lower body the other?

Yes, if you are doing two days in a row, you're better off to split it into upper body and lower body. You don't want to train the same muscle groups 2 days in a row. Do you do low back and core exercises?

One thing I forgot to mention is that you'll want to watch the carb content if you're taking protein shakes... You want some carbohydrate, but not too much if you're trying to lose weight.

Free weights are not about 'getting big'...they're about efficiency, and safety.

Yes, that's right. Safety. Free weights are safer than machines, because they allow freedom of movement and train all the 'helper' muscles so you don't develop weaknesses.

Shoulders is a primary example. The shoulder press machine lets you cheat and not use much but the front deltoids and triceps, in a single plane of motion.
A free weight dumbbell shoulder press works all three heads of the deltoid, and the triceps, in 3 planes of motion.

As long as the protein shake doesn't raise your calorie intake above your needs, you'll continue to lose weight.

You definately want to take protein powder, just be very careful to get a vedry low carb one. I can assure you with 100% confidence that anyone who disagrees with this has no clue to what they are talking about.

yeah, I agree that what you need is a low carb whey protein. You will keep losing fat and the protein will ensure you keep your muscle growth. Something important to know about protein is that it does not get stored as fats in your body ( unlike carbs ), if your intake is higher than your needs your body gets rid of it trough urinating :D

Yes! protein is the number one supplement for muscle building and fat loss for two reasons.
1. It keeps you full and not wanting to eat fats/carbs as much. The more protein, the less of the bad stuff you'll eat.
2. Protein builds muscle. The more muscle on your body, the higher your metabolism, which leads to more fat burning capabilities.

As a side note you should watch how much intake of protein you get (as stated above from other posters). 0.8 to 2.0g per pound of your body weight should be consumed depending on how often and intense you workout.
