Whey Protein Shakes.

Cpl questions How many shakes a day should I drink? Also at GNC they say you need a vitamin to help break down the shake is this true because iam not wanting to have to pop any certain pill with the shake.

Take anything GNC tells you with a grain of salt. They're trying to sell you a product, not necessarily to improve your health.

How many you drink a day depends on how many grams of protein you get a day from whole foods and how many grams a day your target is. I normally have a shake at breakfast and one at night. I'm not bodybuilding/gaining mass, I'm burning fat/maintaining muscle.

The whole "vitamin to break down the protein" sounds like a bunch of crap to me. I think they were trying to sell you a vitamin. Taking vitamins is great, just do it for vitamin supplementation, not to break down proteins :).

Number of shakes will depend on how much protein you need to supplement into your diet. Best way to figure this out is to keep a log for a couple weeks. It is truely an eye-opener when you see on paper how your diet breaks down into its macro-nutrients.

It is not necessary to take any pills with protein shakes.

Vitamins do help in the transport of other nutrients. So a vitamin will help, but your body is WAY MORE than capable of absorbing large amounts of protein - especially in a shake which already comes with other delivery nutrients (carbohydrates, for example).

I would recommend you take a multivitamin anyway. As far as nutrition, it's the very first thing I recommend anyone take - even before protein.

I see I figured these guys were trying to sell me stuff I really didnt need. Anyhow I cant seem to eat enough protein with my diet is why Iam trying these shakes. Iam guessing Ill try 2-3 a day.

It's not difficult to get enough protein in your diet. If you're balancing your meals (30%-50% protein, 30%-50% carbs, 10% - 30% fat) you should be able to get a reasonable amount - unless you're aiming for, say, 2g per lbs of total body weight.

What you're aiming for is 1g - 1.5g of protein per lbs of LEAN body weight.
