Where can I buy....?

I've been to several stores in the Dallas area and have failed to find a tape measure. I ask people at the stores for one and they head off to hardware, and I stop them and say "no, not one of those...the floppy kind you use in sewing." They give me an odd look and say "we don't have anything like that." So I try to find them myself and never can.

It's really pissing me off. Who do you have to kill to get a friggin' tape measure in this city? Seriously!

Oh, and what's the deal with Target not having any 10lb hand weights? Rrrrr!

Wal mart,
Michael's

Anywhere that sells fabric. Look in your yellow pages and find a craft or fabric store.

grocery stores will sell them in the notions section - ya know that place where they sell the thread and needles and safety pins.. CVS will have them in the same section.

Sorry mal, but no they won't. I've already looked at Tom Thumb (north Texas supermarket chain), Walgreen's, and CVS. I got a blank stare from the slack-jawed teen working at Michael's, and Wal-Mart was a washout because I don't know how to say "floppy tape measure" in Spanish.

Looked all over Target for an hour yesterday, finally asked someone, they looked at me like I was nuts. "We don't have those." Sick of it.

Really I'm sick of people not giving a flying fuck about my life or what I'm doing. Nobody gives a shit; I post my shit to try to create some accountability for myself but nobody fucking reads it, so why do I bother? Why? Seriously. My "friends" in real life want me to stay fat so I can be just like them, they don't give a shit. They're actually angry at me for trying to lose weight. People online don't give a crap.

cloth tape measure = medida de cinta de tela (at least according to the translator.

I could use that, but I live in the United States and I resent being forced to speak a language other than English. I'd rather buy it online than enable people who won't learn English.

If you can't find a tape measure...

what about getting a couple of lenghts of ribbon...

and use that for your starting measurements and cut it to the exact fit -then as you shrink - either resnip the ribbon - or mark it with a sharpie so you can see your progress...

I guess I could, but I live in one of the biggest cities in America. I refuse to believe a tape measure cannot be had anywhere in the city. I went to Michael's on a weekend; maybe if I went back after work they'd have an employee there who can find something in 10 zillion acres of store. At least it's not as bad as Wal-Mart...that place makes me want to cry. It's just too big...can't find anything.

do you have a CVS or a Walgreens or RiteAid in your area?

If you needed a roll of thread and a needle to sew on a button - where would you go to get that? A cloth tape measure I'd think would be in the same place...

Jo-Ann's, Hancock Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, Cutting Corners, Best Fabrics, Make, and many more places in Dallas. Just call them before you go and make sure they have one.

CVS yes, Walgreens yes. Have been to both. Neither had one. I did go to the "sewing notions" section of both stores.

I wouldn't, I don't own any shirts with buttons. I know what sewing notions are, I simply choose not to use them. I can't sew buttons on pants properly (I always sew them too tightly) so I just get a tailor or my mom to do it.

I know you don't believe me that neither of these shops had a tape measure, but I have no reason to lie about it.

I've never heard of any of those places except Hobby Lobby, but I think the one near me shut down.

We do have Michael's, and the last time I was there I got slack-jawed quizzical looks from the employees. I'll try again today but if I can't find it, I'm going to stop looking and order one off the internet.

This is all my ex's fault for taking MY tape measure when he moved out. "But...txsqlchick...you could simply go to the same place you went to last time!" Not really; I got it in England. At a store called Duttons' for Buttons. Very quaint.

i'm really not making fun of you - it's just amazing to me that something that is seemingly so ordinary is such a challenge to find...

Send me your address and I'll get one in the mail to you... :D seriously...

I'm surprised too. It was like when I tried to find distilled white vinegar in Yorkshire. It didn't exist!

I did a google search and then hit something called the superpages and got this

It had a bunch of fabric places in your area. They're a must have for sewing and thats where I bought mine after much searching.

I also found them online and tons at amazon.com by googling "sewing tape measure" if you wanted to save yourself the running around. They don't seem to be too expensive. Fabric store is still probably your fastest and cheapest route and you could check your local yellow pages and call around. Good luck

Michael's won't have them. Trust me, I went there too! They don't carry fabric. Jo-Ann's are generally as common as Michael's and they definitely have them. There are probably 10 Jo-Ann's in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area.

My local Wal-Mart does sell fabric so I can't believe they won't have them (Michael's didn't, tried last night); I think the girl I asked honestly did not understand what I was asking for and I had had a crappy day so I was too exasperated to keep asking different people, because if one more person blew me off I was gonna lose it and yell at people. I don't like being ugly to clerks (was one in college) so I just left instead.

I need to shop for all sorts of various things today....underpants, bras, socks, food, and an elusive set of 10lb weights...so I will look at Wal-Mart one more time.

Whoever suggested JoAnn....I'm such an idiot. There's one at Preston and Forest right by my parents' house. I'm a nimrod. That didn't used to be a fabric store, so whenever I've been down there I've paid it no attention assuming it was still an MJDesigns. I think I'm brain-damaged.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I thought of you today. I was searching through one of my craft supply boxes and came across a brand new plastic tape measure! lol Then I was looking through a junk drawer trying to find a paper punch and I came across another one! :ack2: I never did find the paper punch though.
