I've got this protein powder that has slower & faster release energy but would it be better to take it before or after weight training?
Isn't the protein for the rebuilding of the muscle tissue after exersize?

Also does it really do much anyways?

Thanks in advance for help!

I take protein straight after a workout.

It's good to have a good amount of protein throughout the day, after your workout is very important though. If you could only take the power once, I'd agree with Iffy. But remember milk is also a great source of protein, along with meats. Although it is extremly important to get protein after you lift, it's important in general because your body is rebuilding all the time after you work out. So a constant supply is best.

so in summary: get protein at every single meal...aim for 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight, and try to divide it evenly among your 5-6 daily meals.
Whey protein is perfect for post-workout, as it digests fast to get amino acids back into the muscles to begin the recovery process.
Protein powder is also great as a snack, like in the morning with some oatmeal and a bit of natty PB for the healthy fats.

Protein powder is just a shortcut to helping you achieve 1g of protein per pound of body mass. Some poeple can do this all with whole food. Some are too busy, or just don't have the funds (powder is usually well under $1 per 30g serving, where an equal amount of skinless chicken breast is double that, and must be cooked, etc...)
