When do you reduce calories?

If I'm consuming 1500-1550 calories a day and doing 45 mins cardio 5x a week, do I stay on this plan to drop 60 lbs? Will I need to go under 1500 say if I drop 30 lbs? Or will 1500 be enough or too much? Thanks!

Depends where your starting position is.

If 1500 is crazy-low for you then it'll not help as much as you think. If you weigh more than 150lbs I think 1500cals is too low, with a gym routine.

Broadly speaking, you drop 1lb per 3500 calories burnt.

Never lower calories! You want to be able to consume the same amount of calories each day and still burn. The best way that I know of to do that is to eat 500-1000 calories above what you normally do once per week. Keep your metabolism high, dont let it slow down.

I had a lot to say in addition to this link but i've thought better of it. This link is about burning fat. There are some key tips in there. Notably about being rigorous with your calorie counting. But its interesting anyway.

Note I am not posting it because i think you should do weight training. I just think its a useful article.
