what's your resting heart rate (RHR)?

i just counted mine with my index and middle fingers on my carotid artery. i got 64 beats per minute. my lowest was about 2 years ago when i got 58 beats per minute.

for males:
52-71 beats per minute = excellent
72-92 beats per minute = average
93 < beats per minute = poor

for females:
59-72 beats per minute = excellent
73-91 beats per minute = average
92 < beats per minute = poor

some of you guys who don't do cardio and only lift weights will have higher RHR's.

Between 54 and 57

I measure it with a blood pressure monitor. When I started my program last July, it was 69.

well i've never been able to take my own pulse - but when i was tested last saturday my resting heart rate was 60 - which i find impossible to believe that I am excellent....

Funny you should ask this; I was trying to find information on this and my coworker/gym buddy were discussing it yesterday; I am SO overweight (233, 5'4"), yet I've measured my resting heart rate with a monitor and it's 56! Why so low?

if its a really low heart beat, that most likely means you'll live longer right? Because you have such a strong heart?

mine is 54

Assuming that you know for sure that you're going to die of heart disease/failure.

Because you have such a strong heart?

Could also mean that your workload is smaller. A thinner person with healthy arteries is going to have much less of a workload than a heavier person with hardened arteries that has alot of plaque and is constricted.

mines usually about 60-80, usually on the lower side, which is pretty good considering how overweight i am still :)

Women's Health magazine had a blurb on resting heart rate in the current issue... and it said that if your heart rate is below 60 - (unless you're a serious athlete) that it's quite possible that you have an irregular heartbeat.

In my case, that's true.
