Whats your opinion on how long to wait between sets?

Im wondering how long i should be waiting before doing another set. Right now im doing 70 pound barbel curls 7 - 8 reps waiting 3 minutes then doing the same but thats all i can do without waiting longer and i do the same for exercise's like seated tricep press's and deltoid exercise's. Im just wondering if i should keep doing 2 sets or wait longer cause ive also heard you should do 8 reps and wait 10 - 15 minutes and do that till you have done 5 sets but then some people say not to wait that long.

i dont do the traditional sets, so i just kinda go until i cant do any more, then cut the weight and do that till i cant do any more untill i cant lift 10 pounds

i never pay attention to exactly how long between sets, but if i had to guess it wouldn't be more than a minute & a half.. probably a minute..

i use to be anal about it and use a kitchen timer to get it down to the exact second. but now i just go by feel. but i can say it use to take me like 2-3 minutes to recover but now its no more than a minute.

but exercises like squats and deadlifts i'll take more time than say presses or rows. :)

I generally give myself less around 60-90 seconds rest between exercises (unless I'm maxing out which is rare) regardless of exercise. It's that whole working on strength-endurance thing.

If it's five reps or lower and on big lower body compound lifts then I usually wait at least five minutes. If it's more than five reps or upper body work then I'll wait about three minutes. If you're training for strength it time betweenm sets isn't really important as long as you've recovered enough to complete the next set.

I do the same. Every few weeks, though, I will change it and wait only 20-30 seconds, just to change it up a bit.

I thought I'd drudge this up.

"After about 90 seconds your Phospho-Creatine stores are back to 98.5% of their pre workout levels meaning you've basically replenished the fuel system involved in weightlifting after 90 second of rest. So resting for 4 minutes is really a waste of time, by going 90 seconds you'll do the same work in less time. The greater intensity you probably felt was using proper form and keeping the muscle under tension for a longer period of time. Stick with the 90 second rest you will get a better workout in less time."

---Something an acquaintence of mine helped to shed light on the subject.

For strength and power, wait up to a few minutes. For muscle building or cutting, no more than a minute-after a minute the pump starts to subside and you'll start to cool down, making it harder to stay mentally involved in the workout.
