Hello everyone, I'm 24 and weight in at 220lbs (this morning soaking wet). I tried dieting a while back and just couldnt stick too it. I'm overweight, a smoker & drinker and I don't eat healthy at all. Well, I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to look like this anymore so I'm asking you guys what you would do first if you were in my shoes. I have an office job and don't get much exercise throughout the day so I started walking on the treadmill at home. For now im cutting out all alcohol and trying to limit smoking use until I can quit. I'm also making sure I don't over eat, I've cut out fast food, and am trying to stay to veggies, chicken, pork chops, yogurt, eggs, etc etc. One thing im not doing is counting my calories, I plan on doing it sooner or later. Should I start weight training to get rid of the fat. I don't really want to lose a ton of weight maybe about 40-50lb but if I could turn that into muscle I would be fine with it.

No I wouldn't start with weight training...although it would be something good to do. Counting your cals is whats gonna really help you. People tend to make dieting harder than what it is. Eat less/ Move more. Period. Start counting your calories, it will really open your eyes!

Thank you for the advice, I'm thinking that right now my best move is to cut out all beer and soda and just switch to water. I've just been watching what I eat and making sure I don't eat TOO much. I will start counting calories in a few days once I figure out how many i need to consume each day. Gonna try to go on a long walk this evening. I can't wait till I can open my lungs back up enough to run.

I weight myself today and i was 220 soaking wet and i weighed myself when i got home and i was 218 with clothes on lol. I ate good all day and ive been drinking nothing but water for the past 2 days.

I agree with Korrie, keep it simple, especially in the beginning.
