What to do whilst injured?

i've recently suffered a pretty nasty knee injury, i have seen my doctor and then a knee specialist who has said that he suspects i have injured cruciate and medial ligaments, and now i'm on the waiting list for an MRI scan (i live in the UK so i've probably got a 2-6 month wait for this) - i'm still on crutches two weeks after the event.

this has hit me pretty hard as i normally run for about 40 minutes three times a week and play an hour of competitive 5-a-side soccer two times a week, plus use my rowing machine at home for half an hour two or three times a week.

i have been doing this for about 6 years after letting myself get a bit out of shape when i was at university and had got into really good condition. but i now can't do any of these things and it looks like it may be as much as a year before i can again, and there is the chance that i might need surgery.

can anyone suggest something that i can do to keep my fitness up which doesn't involve using my knee! i really don't want to let all my good work over the last few years go to waste. if anyone else has been in the same situation i would be grateful to know what you did about it.
