What to do next?

I dedicated myself to lose 100 pounds this year and I did some research. I found [removed] through a google search which was very helpful on giving me free tips and guide on how to get fit.

I made some good progress in the first month, but every month, the amount of pounds I lose lessen - even though I exercise more. I lost 17 lbs in the first month which got me very exited about the whole process. Then 9 on the second and only 4 on the third month :(

WHY IS MY BODY DOING THIS AND HOW DO I MAKE IT GO BACK TO LOSING AROUND 17 LBS PER MONTH AGAIN??!!

Simple answer:

You can't.

The more weight you lose, the slower the weight loss gets.

Anything more than about 2% of your bodyweight per week in weight lost isn't particularly healthy anyway in the long run.

If you look around the forum, you will see that most people go for a slow, steady and sustainable weight loss because over time, that is what gets results.

You already did pretty good I would say, and 4 lbs per month is nothing to complain about.

I don't agree. No one can say that you "can't" go back to losing 17 lbs/mo but it all boils down to number of calories. Most people can't reduce the number of calories enough to lose that much each and every month. You have to find something that will allow you to eat fewer calories. What worked for me was a diet Cookie. It's basically a protein bar but better. I ate on them throughout the day and especially late evening. They kept me full and satisfied so I could make some good low-calorie choices. I ended up eating lots fewer calories and lost weight pretty quickly. Good Luck and don't let anyone talk you out of it!

Please don't be offended by me asking you this but... are you selling these cookies?

It's just that you've talked about these cookies on almost every single one of your post. I'm just wondering. You could just be an enthusiast of the brand I understand.

Losing 17lbs a month sounds tempting to a lot of people but San is right. Losing more than 1%-2% of your body weight a week is unhealthy and causes problems within the body whether you know it now or not. Also, isn't loose skin a concern when losing so much so quickly?

It's safer and a more permanent option to just learn to eat healthier so that you develop good habits long term and keep the weight off.

I'm suspecting you're selling those cookies because otherwise you wouldn't ramble on about them in the fashion you are.

Apart from that, of course you can go back to losing 17 lbs a month. Hell, you can probably lose twice that if you try really hard. Just stop eating altogether, and almost everything is possible.

Well, for a short while at least, until you either collapse due to starving, or can't stand it any more and go back to normal eating and pile the weight back on.

Losing that amount of weight is plain and simply unhealthy. At very heigh weights you can lose weight quickly, yes, but that's mostly water weight. Trying to keep going like that will do you more harm than good...actually, it won't do you any good at all.

Cutting your calories too low will deprive you of proper nutrition, and it will eventually send your body into the so-called 'starvation mode', in which the body's metabolism will stall to conserve what little energy it gets, and it will make it even more difficult to lose any weight at all.

.....What worked for me was a Diet Cookie. It's basically a protein bar but better......

The protein bars I've tried tend to taste like a Snickers knock-off with chalk added. Often 250 calories each.

No, these types of 'snacks' are ultimately unsatisfying. Have an apple or banana followed by a couple of Jolly Ranchers for extra sweetnes.

I'm sure you can sell them to some sucker though ;)

No, I don't sell them and OK, I apologize for being over zealous about them. I guess it's because THEY HELPED ME! I've been reprimanded for mentioning the name. Hell, any of the cookie diets would work here. They all would have worked for me... I just had a favorite that I stick with (mostly because of taste and cost). I also always ask for Pepsi instead of Coke. I'm just funny that way. I won't mention the brand name again. But can I still recommend the cookie diet cookies generically?

Also, I guess I want to clarify my stand. Even tho' you should be able to increase the number of lbs lost... constant high weight loss just won't happen. There will be ups and downs. Your body will lose a lot of weight then it needs time to adjust and you will feel like you are stalled but you actually aren't. The weight loss will cycle lots/little/lots/little so over time an average will be good.

Wow. Do you know how hungry I get after I eat an apple? Even a banana does it to me. Actually I think they unleash cravings in me. Not the cookies tho'. They eliminate hunger and (more important) cravings. So, just because something works for you... don't think it works for everyone the same way. I guess I have a "carbohydrate addiction" (you probably don't even believe in that). That's why the cookies work wonders for me and they are incredibly satisfying!
