what should I be taking

hello yall. I want to know if what I am taking is necessary for wanting to pack on mass. I weigh about 155 my height is about 5'7 my goal is to get up to about 180-190. I was kind of silly when I first started my training program because I didn't take any b4 pics, measure my body fat or anything like that. Since Im so skinny I don't realy care I guess. I currently use the bowflex ultimate, I don't know how good the bowflex is going to work on my mass gaining efforts. The only compliment I get on is on my arms. I'ts hard to say though because Ive always had ok bi's.
(kinda got off of the subject, here's what I take.)
weight gainer
TRAC
PUMPTECH
what do you think about taking both pumptech and trac. they both have nitric oxide in them, do you think that I should just go with a regular creatine

being brutally honest i dont care for those choices because when i started out i was in the same boat as you.

the pumptech wont contribute to gains. weight gainers are nothing more than sugar and whey. i do hear good things about trac.

give them a go and see how it goes. :)

anything else I should be taking

the weight gainer I have has moderately low sugar only 20 grams per serving which I don't think is all that bad. the serving size is 2 heaping scoops I only take one 3 times a day so It's only 30 grams of sugar daily. I think the trac is doing pretty good so far I am going to cut the pumptech out of my regimine though. it was a silly purchase for me I just had a few extra bucks and thought why not. anything else I should be taking.

IMHO, i can make a case for basics like vitamins and efas but if you're following a solid meal plan with good consistent training, start kicking butt now and see how you do in a few months. :)

what's trac

Wolverine Trac is a no2/ creatine supplement. also I was wanting to try a prohormone. I found one of those test creams check it out and tell me what you think.

Sounds like marketing BS. Everything is generalized and or a precursor to something. If they had their research posted in a scientific or university paper where you could read it would be the only way I would even consider it. Waste of money unless a ton of gym rats start raving about it later. Then it may be something to look into.

I gotta say that the only thing I take these day in addition to my diet is protien shakes. With looking at putting on 25lb to 30lbs of muscle mass, you should be able to do it through good diet alone, unless you have a ridiculous metabolism. And even then, you can still do it.

I personally don't advocate weight gainers... I think you're better off taking in some real carbs. As for prohormones, forget them... they're a HUGE waste of money!!! It's all marketing BS.... Spend the extra money on more groceries. It'll have a bigger impact.

thank you all

yeah the only reason I take the weight gainers is because I'ts hard for me to get all of my protein and carbs at work. I don't have time to sit down and have 3 good meals at work. I usually wake up about 6:00am take a weight gainer shake and hope that it last me untill I get off at 2:00 then I get home and have a bowl of tuna and noodles, work out, have another shake after that I try to compenstate for the meals that I missed at work, before I go to bed I usually have another weight gainer.

Damn, so you go from about 6:30am to 2pm without any food intake?
That's definitely counter-productive to your training...and diet really IS that important.
Can I ask what kind of work you're in? There's got to be a way for you to eat once in there. Surely you get a break? You just need to plan ahead: buy some of that cheap Gladware stuff...it's the bomb for eating like a bodybuilder (I'll share a story in a sec). Pre cube your cooked chicken breast, steak, or tuna, some brown rice, and some veggies, and Gladware it. Buy a little cooler and one of those blue ice packs. Take that to work and it'll stay cool enough to not spoil.

(story)
A couple years ago I got married - we flew to Vegas and got married there, the same weekend of the Mr. Olympia contest. We had a short layover in Denver, and lo and behold, Markus Ruhl was at the gate for our Denver-Vegas flight. As soon as the plane level'd off at cruising altitude, Markus got out his carry-on, and produced a tupperware bowl, and proceeded to chow down.

If you wanna grow, you've gotta eat. Worse comes to worst, buy a box of protein bars. Those new Kong bars have 50g carbs and 30g protein...more of a meal size bar...for a guy my size at least.

:( i eat at 8 am and nothing else till 4pm this is kinda normal now.. even since i moved to this new area. The school has lots of food but only one is healthy, the salad. And u gotta pay for it GRRR. At my old school we got free lunch and more healthy options.

Yep im training really hard... too and i know this is not good for me.. :(
Today a girl bought me a candy bar wasnt gonna eat it but, didnt wanna be rude, since she already bought it. It had about 15 grams of fat and 30 grams of carbs, lots of sugar. This just came to my mind, is eating something unhealthy like this better than nothing at all?

Good question: is it better to eat anything, than nothing at all?

I'd say yes, but within reason, and it shouldn't be a common event. It is ok to allow yourself 1-2 small treats/desserts a week...it satisfies your brains desire for food that tastes good, but limiting it prevents it from adding too many extra calories.

A protien bar would be better since you want protein in every meal when you're training.
Do they not allow you to bring your own lunch to school?

yeah imma go buy some bars tomorrow and i've already ordered some online.

i've been living like this for about 2 months now.. maybe thats why i don't get that big.. i work out at school too. Thanks for bringing up the subject and answering my question. Really helpful.

Let me repeat... Food, Food, Food...

I have a desk job and it's a pain, but with some planning you can get your meals in. (Even though you may get the occassional stare from someone)

Laytownking... I reread your post and realized I didn't really answer your question... Without really knowing your bf% and what not, I'd suggest about 150g-190g of protien/day and around 350g-400g of carbs/day (and that's probably on the low side) if you're looking at a target weight of 180-190lbs. I'd try to get this in 5-6 meals, so you may have to slowly work yourself up to eating every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Keep in mind that if you're planning on bulking that you're going to be putting some fat on as well, but that's why we have cutting cycles.

And to add to Endo's comment - the carbs are needed to keep your body in an anabolic state. If you find you're putting on too much fat in a bulking phase, you probably need to trim carbs back a little (everyone handles carbs a bit differently). Alternately you could cut back carbs by 50g or so on teh days you aren't lifting. You'll still have a calorie surplus (which means growth) but it shouldn't convert to as much fat.

try to have something roughly every 3 hours. sometimes its a bitch, i know. at my old job the only break we got was for lunch so i had to figure out ways to get in my meals mid morning and mid afternoon.

what i did was make my own gainer shakes using things like oats, protein powder, milk, olive oil, milk powder, etc. whatever it took to get me the calories i needed. i used a dark container so everyone thought i was just drinking water. i did get some funny looks when i shaked it. :D

i also sometimes would make my own protein bars, cut them into small pieces and stick them in my pocket or somewhere. kinda stupid to have to resort to such tatics just to get meals in.

now i have a desk job and have no problems eating 6 meals a day though planning ahead of time is key. ;)

so no prohormones then

thanks for the help. I know that eating is very important. I sometime convince myself that If I miss those meals from 6-2 oclock that I will make them up when I get home. YEAH right. my ass usually falls asleep around 8 or 9 falling well short of my protein and carb needs. I guess I need to do some serious shopping for some food to pack in my lunch when I get paid. so back to the prohormones them.....why does it seem like everyone is against them? If I eat properly and use prohormones that should make me into a muscle weilding god.....right?

so back to the prohormones them.....why does it seem like everyone is against them?

theyre dangerous. pure and simple. they have many of the same side effects as steriods. the companies will even tell you that, so you know thats not just alarmist heresay. they probably would work, but they put you at high risk of serious health problems.

also, theyre expensive and you have to keep buying them. which would become a problem since congress voted to pull them from the shelves soon.

ive seen them work, but i just dont think its worth it.

I'm all about weight gainers, but I really have to use them. I'm 6'6" and 225 lbs so I need ALOT of calories and protien. It's hard to put a lot of muscle on a 6'6" frame but lifting heavy with N-large 2, I'm getting there.

Trick to bulking up and not getting a fat stomach is fat intake (for me anyway). You can't eat pb&j sandwiches cause "you're bulking." I eat like I would on any other healthy diet except I take in a lot more, at least 3-4000 calories a day.
