I have access to a gym for free, if I want, provided by the company. Yet, I rarely use it. I find it more convenient to exercise at home. There are a million ways to get cardio exercise without going to the gym. Most are a lot more fun - walking, running, swimming, jumping rope, mowing the lawn, gardening, playing sports, etc. Weight lifting is maybe a bit more convenient at the gym, but there are still body weight exercises you can do, like push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, planks, lunges, step-ups, and so forth. If you really want to, you can buy a set of dumbbells, or just lift convenient weights you have around the house, like bottles of water, bags of books, and so forth.
Back in the fifties and early sixties a guy by the name of Bill Orban developed an exercise plan for Canadian RAF members who were stationed in places without gym facilities. This was called the 5BX program and will still work for you today. Orban's testing led him to the conclusion that the intensity of exercise was more important to improving fitness than the amount of time spent on it. Does that sound familiar? He was ahead of his time. Nowadays the fad is "high intensity interval training" which people seem to think is a brand new discovery. Anyway, you can download the 5BX program for free and it will still work just as well as it ever did.
