Sorry to be gross, but I need to ask: can constipation cause weight gain/plateau? Two weeks ago, I joined myfooddiary.com (a site where you track daily calories and exercise) and up until a few days ago, it was amazing--I lost 5.5 lbs! For the last few days, however, I have GAINED a pound and cannot shake it off! I don't know what is going on--I have been eating 300-500 calories under maintenance, exercising, and drinking tons of water every day. The only thing that's been different these days is that I've been constipated. Could this be the reason I am not losing any more weight? Don't get me wrong, I expected my weight loss to slow after the initial period, but this seems so sudden. If you've been there, done that, please advise. Thank you!
Actually its the other way around. Weight loss causes constipation! It sounds gross but fat is what actually "lubricates" both your bowl and the lining of the anal cavity.
When my son was first born, I lost a lot of weight suddenly and had to be rushed to the ER only one day after being sent home! I had such an obstruction from being constipated that the doctors were considering surgery! I guess when you have such a rapid weight loss in a short period of time, it takes the rest of your body a while to catch up.
But hey, sounds like you're doing everything right. If you're still having trouble with the weight loss plateau and constipation try adding some fibersure or something like that to one of your glasses of water a day. I cant promise that it will work b/c the only time I ever used fibershure, weight loss was the last thing on my mind...lol! But, I heard from a friend of mine who was going though the same thing that it worked for her. Good luck. Hope this helps
