What is a realistic goal

Hello everyone im new here.

having read so many inspirational stories on the site i thought I,d give it a go to see if you can acheive these miracles in like 8 months to a year

I started to lose weight on 4th june weighing in at 342lbs,as of today 1st july I am at 310-312 depending if the scale likes me or not.

My diet has been mainly high protein and lowish carbs around 2-2200 cals per day over 5-6 meals.Exercise wise I started weightlifting 2 weeks ago and doing cardio 20-30 mins 3 times per week(I am aerobically so unfit, its disgusting)

now to the negative side(I Know already) having lost 30lbs my muscles feel a bit harder to me, and i can feel changes a little bit of fat pulling in here and there, yet i dont seem to have lost any size on the waist and I might be imagining my shirts feeling a tiny bit looser but im not sure, its as though 30lbs hasn't even made a dent.no one has even noticed im losing weight

I know it sounds like im moaning before ive started but I wondered what you succesful people felt/looked like 1 month in,and how long into your progress the people with 100 lbs to lose actually knew they were getting somewhere or is that first 30 when you were 340 a miniscule amount, do the changes suddenly hit you at 50,60lbs lost.

anyway moan over,im enjoying the site and good luck to everyone in their own weight loss

It took me about 50 -70lbs before my sizes really changed or anyone noticed -and there are still some folks who haven't noticed :D

thanks it gives me a bit of perspective, I just had newbie panics of getting down to 270 or 280 and looking the same like a hollowed out shell of the same big body

I'm currently training a 210 lbs female who is tall. She's lost 20 lbs and you can barely see a difference. You're doing the right thing by not flipping out and trying your best to manage your expectations. That's an important step.

Once negativity creeps in it's so easy to resort to some other 'behavior' not aligned with reaching your goal.

Just be aware that you'll be the last person to notice, more often than not, serious change. Our minds like to play tricks on ourselves. That's why I think it's important to keep a record of not only measurements but also pictures.

Over time these things will really paint a pretty picture with the longer term, more important trends.

I would tend to agree. It was only after I had lost about 5 stone (70 pounds) that I started getting much in the way of comments from people. Some people didnt comment until I had lost more though!

I noticed changes before that though. The only comments that I got in the early days were from close family and I was never 100% sure whether they were humouring me or whether they could really see a difference.

The weight didnt come off in a predictable way either. I lost a fair bit of weight off the top of my left leg before anything seemed to come off the top of my right leg!!!

One thing I should mention is that the clothes that I used to wear always had things like elastic waists - so I kept on wearing much the same clothes for long enough too.

thx for the replies guys at least I know the kind of change ive got to head for, just gives me a bit more motivation to get there

I thought I was some medical freak who lost 2 stone and stayed the same like some sort of 22 stone illusion :)
