What herbs and spices are healthy?

I just eat my chicken breast skinless boiled and without any spices because I'm not sure which ones are good for the diet, and not just for the chicken for everything else, can you tell me some ingredients that can help me spice up the food and make it tastier. Is ketchup allowed? what about salt?

I use Tony Cachero's Salt free spice .... u can use Mrs.Dash too ... u can marinate it with mustard (i use spicy so it gets more flavor) ... i use soy sauce as a marinade alot too but i think it has a lot of sodium in it but the other suggestions are healthy :)

Ketchup

So you say that ketchup is alright, can I use any Ketchup or I should look for something special or specific

aside from being sensitive to certain herbs/spices, they are all fine. salt, should be used in moderation.

my favorite solo spices include: cayenne, curry, garlic, black and white pepper, sea salt (in moderation!)
spice blends: any variety of Mrs. Dash, various Jamaican jerk seasonings, lemon pepper rub, etc...etc. Most blends are heavy in salt, and especially lookout for MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) which is like salt on crack! avoid it like the plague for a variety of reasons.

you can use marinades too, which is easy to do the day before you plan to cook. plain italian salad dressing makes a decent chicken marinade. you can also put it over cubed potatoes, wrap in foil, and grill it.

i have a neighbor who is a butcher and he makes his own cajun seasoning. and since we live in cajun country, its the real deal ;)

i'm gonna send out some to a couple ppl on another board later on. when things settle down for me at home, we can work out the details later ;)
