its tough to really determine what your target weight should be -- especially at your age, since your body is still growing and changing...

What is your ?

lol, guys all he wanted was some answers!

It's hard to tell, but at 16 if your 5'8 you have the potential to go 6 ft' or above, so your weight can vary depending on the height u reach, but for right now i'd say if u were around 180 you could be more comfortable and then grow into that weight, know what I mean? And on the odd chance you stay 5'8", then you can aim for a goal in that region.

im about 6 ft 1, large frame so im aiming for about 180ish but will be more when i really start to get into resistance training. see there's a lot of stuff you gotta factor in, but if you take alook around these forums and read some posts, it'll suprise you how much you can learn.

don't be a quitter, they fade into the crowd and go unnoticed,
you can do it man; find a goal and shoot for it.

Re:

Hi - I think it's great that you are looking at getting fit at such an early age. I actually started dieting when I was about 12 and saw that my body was a little different than others my age. So I figured I would do something about it now instead of waiting.

Keep up the great work and if you're doing this already, GREAT - but maybe join a gym or do some exercise programs at home. You should keep this type of lifestyle for the rest of your life, and believe me when I say this - it only gets better as the years go on.

Keep up the great work and good luck!:)

Lol, you're like a little kid. Make up your own targets.

like a little kid? i have made up my own targets , i just needed some direction , if your not gonna say anything constructive then go (content edited)

steve .. no shit huh

Adria .. thank you for replying , my brothers basically got a home-gym (weightlifting / boxing / treadmill )

thanks for those that took the time to reply CONSTRUCTIVELY..appreciated

5'8"?? I would try to reach a goal of 160ish.

But really, it's how you feel when YOU look in the mirror and try on clothes. I have a friend who is the same height as me and she is around 115 lbs, but I would never get that small, because I feel like I look sick. My goal is 130. Also, are you going for a thin wiry look, or are you wanting a more muscular look?

People don't always respond right away, patience is always appreciated. Plus, since you are 16, you should look at eating right and exercising. Not necessarily consider a diet. You are still growing both internally and externally, so you will need many more of the essential nutrients etc that someone who is not in this phase needs.

Do you have a plan for cardio and weight lifting?

thanks for taking the time to reply.

i just want to get thin , then build muscle , i know muscle weighs more than fat but ive been told that weightlifting actually helps you lose more faster , i dont wanna go in 'all-guns-blazing' lol

i really think i only need to lose 2-3 stone so i wanna take my time and do everything the correct way , i LOVE fruit and veg , so theres no problem there , im gonna cut my calorie intake to 1400-1500 , im just gonna have

breakfast (kellogs special K , love the taste)
lunch (apple , gotta love them)
dinner ( something low-fat , ill figure it out)
and something at night like , noodles??

( if that even matches 1500 calories lol )

i dont really have a plan for my workouts , ill definetely weight life , arms , legs , shoulders

gonna space maybe 50 sit ups a day (10 every 2 hours or something) and gradually move up to the 100's.

i have a bike , wheel needs fixing( i love bikes too lol )

cardio..i dunno , any ideas?

see , i love healthy food , i like certain exercises , i know i can do it its just getting the motivation to do it , which im sure my family will help me out with

People don't always respond right away, patience is always appreciated.

yea i know , yesterday just wasnt a good day and neither is today really , thats why i snapped earlier at Eazy , there was just so many veiws and no replies , kinda pissed me off.

again , ty for the reply

I don't know enough to help you with the food side of things.. but the best way to lose weight healthily and by far the most enjoyable is too simply have LOTS of exercise such as running/cycling and just eat normal amounts of good food. There's not really a need to watch calories and do all these fancy things, just eat 3 good meals a day (which it sounds like you're doing) and do lots of exercise. You'll feel alot better really quickly and it will help to keep you motivated.. Thats all you need to do

You might consider posting your goals and stat over in the "Harsh Truth" area of the forum. That is where the pros go to help us out and give advice. They will be able to give you more precise exercise and diet ideas that will really help you out.

Also, I'd recommend really tracking your actual food consumption. Measure things and put everything you eat in a food diary (online like fit day or daily plate will track everything for you if you enter what food and how much). As my trainer says, absolutely no guesstimating! Know exactly what you are putting into your body each and every day! ;)

I want to preface this post with the following. I am not an expert, I don't claim to be. I am only reiterating information I have learned on this board and in life, and hope I have given credit where credit is due!

In order to lose weight you don't need LOTS of exercise. You need a caloric deficit, as long as you have less calories in than calories burned, you'll more than likely lose. That is you need to consume less calories than you are burning daily. However, if you drastically reduce what you are eating to an extreme level and on a daily basis, your body will hoard the calories that you are giving it and you won't lose weight. You need to learn a little about nutrition and your body before making any decisions to cut your food out.

I also think your calories you are shooting for are too low. I'm 157 lbs and at that weight, I should be eating between 1300-1500/day, so I would think that at your size/weight, that would be an EXTREME or worse.. complete Starvation mode. Maybe you should write down the things you eat for a week before starting a healthier plan to see how many calories you consume, and then look at decreasing.

Another idea that Steve has given on here, is take your own body weight and multiply by 15 (calories per lb) and then decreasing that # by 15% (I believe) to get an approximate idea of what you should be taking in to help lose lbs.

So.. 208X15 = 3120X.15 = 468. 3120-468=2652.

Looking at the above #'s 1400-1500 is a BAD amount to cut your calories too. Your body needs more to function properly on a daily basis.

Also, muscle burns more calories than fat. So the more muscle you have on your body, the more calories you are going to burn by doing nothing.

You need to make sure you are getting protein in every meal, and since you are a teen, you should not limit yourself with your nutrition, your body still needs so many vitamins and nutrients. Again, your body is still growing. Try to eat your foods in moderation while becoming more active. Choose leaner meats like Grilled Chickens and Fish and limit extras like butter on your breads etc.

& Please, rethink the daily meal plan you typed out above. You need much much more than that.. I don't think that plan would have 1000 cals to it.

My nutrition lady said:

Try to eat to the food pyramid (you probably had to memorize it for health classes!!).
You need 6-11 grains (bread, pasta, rice)...the whole wheat kind or brown rice are healthier choices.
You are supposed to get 5 vegetables, and I think about 3 fruits...I'm amazed if I get one of each a day, but that's my goal.
I think it's at least 4 oz of protein - lean meats are best
Around 3 dairy (milk, yogurt, cheeses...) low fat is the better choice.
Limit your sweets & fatty oils.

Start out with small goals.
I'm trying to get 8 glasses of water. It's not a goal I reach every day, but I try.
Just being aware of what you are eating will help to make better choices...like a small fries instead of super size, a banana instead of a pop-tart. Little changes can be easier to keep true to.

It's a great decission to get healthier! Good for you (and all of us here!)!
Success!!
Cheryl:)

hey. you haven't gotten much for good replies. my apologies.

first, BMI straight off is not the best indicator because it doesn't take into account muscle mass and body frame. However, 208 at 5'8 is on the heavier side.

second, don't shoot for a weight. that is definitely the easiest thing to target, but is the most inaccurate. to lose weight properly, you need to be doing cardio and weight training (or resistance training since you are too young to be pushing weights too hard). With any kind of muscle building activity, you are going to gain muscle mass and deter you because you won't feel like you are losing any weight, when in fact, you are burning fat.

The best scale is a mirror. Taking pictures of yourself once every 2 weeks is a good tool ... so is using body-fat measurement with calipers.

3rd, and most important is nutrition. Cut out unhealthy snacks completely ... especially wasted calories like pop and chips. Take a look at what I've been eating for the last 2 weeks to help you out a bit: 2 months to go World Fitness.com - workout - exercise - fitness - forum - articles (my goal is much like yours ... tone down then worry about building muscle).

it got deleted , just aswell too ;)

by stooping to a personal level , you proved who most immature , the adult or teenager :D it is kinda fucked up how you can get away with the things youve said , after all , this is a weight loss/fitness forum , in no way did i refer to weight , but yea man , way too go ;)

what the thread contained was really just proving who can stoop the lowest , adult or teen , you were succesful in that.

also i wished you good luck with your weight loss , genuinely , i know how you feel. still a.. =)

AllCdnBoy.
