What do you hate about your build ?

Your height ? Shoulder width ?

I bet my biggest complaint is rarely heard (but of course I'm always the oddball anyway :))
I hate that my rib cage is so freaking square ! Instead of my last two ribs on the bottom not sticking out qite as far as those above, they stick out JUST as far ! Not tapering in at all !
I've often thought that maybe they formed that way as a kid, when my gut was always bigger than my chest ! :(

Result ? Especially in high school, when I was working out hard, I always had to hear... "Quit sucking your gut in so hard".... Uhhh.... Sorry. That's just my screwed up rib cage :(

So anyway, the only time it didn't look like I was straining to suck my gut way in, was when I was obese ! (about the last 15 years). But now that I'm way thinner, it's driving me crazy again !

Can a person have their last couple ribs surgically realigned ? No, seriously !

hahahaha I have the same thing. Giant rib cage. Doesn't really bother me but it does look like I'm sucking my gut in all the time. The one good thing it does is it makes me have a huge chest.

Carthon ! I thought I was the only one ! You don't know how much better this makes me feel :)

And I guess I'm lucky that my chest muscles do (er, have, and hopefully will again) develop fairly easily ! So that the muscle still stands up quite a bit higher than my bottom ribs.

Hey, next week, when I'm taking some pre-contest photos of my ripped buddy, and his wife, I'm going to hand him the camera, to take a few "skinny" pre-ripped shots of myself, and I'll post them here.....

Oh, and I'm going to go try to find one of my fattest, ugliest photos from a year ago, now.....

Peace,
Fish

Me three(!) I used to swim a lot (a LOT) as a nipper. Apparently that makes my ribcage bigger than average. Lot's of breath holding around 7 - 12 yrs old when bones are more impressionable.

It's just how I am I suppose. I don't really 'hate' anything about my body other than the layer of fat that surrounds it of course ;)

Probably the two most bothersome things are kind of odd.

1. I have a ribcage problem too! I never knew so many other people had ribcage issues, lol. Mine is because I have scoliosis (very, very, slight curve; like 8 or 9 degrees if I remember correctly.) Believe me, I am thankful it's not worse, but because of the scoliosis my top two ribs stick out more than they are supposed to. Consequently, it seems that fat likes to build on them and then from there it's like a "curtain" of fat hanging off of them so my upper stomach is very fat. Most women are concerned about having a fat lower stomach, but me, it basically sticks out the same distance all over. Then, a few years back when I weighed 135 and was a size 8, of course I looked a lot better, but my ribs still stuck out and it did look like I was sucking in all the time.

2. My knees. I haven't really seen anyone else with knees like mine. They have fat rolls! Ew! When I'm standing up, it's like right above the knee cap there is a semi circle around my knees where the fat rolls over. It's because I carry a lot of weight in my lower body and legs. Even when I was at my smallest (the aforementioned 135), I still had those. They did get much better though. Once I get to my goal weight of 125, if those suckers aren't gone, I am seriously thinking of getting those surgically taken care of. I am soooo self-conscious of them, I haven't worn shorts in years and I hate dress shopping because so many of them cut off right above the knee. It's hard to find a cute dress that is longer than knee-length, unless you need a formal gown.

Omg, I have precisely the same problem! I also have a bit of scoliosis, bad enough that I wore a back brace at night growing up to keep it from getting worse. And now, my ribs look very funny, like asymmetric. It doesn't look quite as weird now since they're not as visible as they used to be, but it's still obvious! And my waist sort of nips in on one side and not at all on the other.... And since my scoliosis was caused by one leg being like half an inch shorter than the other, that's made one of my legs bigger than the other as well, like my thigh is bigger around than the other one.

Other than that, I really am pretty pleased with my body shape. It used to upset me so much that my legs were a bit big compared to my top half and that I don't have much of a defined waist, no matter what weight I'm at, but I've come to appreciate it over the years.

I'm a rib person too, I think?
Now I've lost most of the weight my bottom ribs stick out and kinda make my body look top heavy although I'm kinda flat chested - if that makes any sense haha?
I have quite small hips when you look at me from the side [think this is hereditary, my mum had to have a C-Section with me and my sis since we would fit on the way out] so my stomach sticks out more than I'd like in comparison to the rest of me. Apart from that though I'm starting to appreciate my shape after years of hating it. Strength training is really helping to transform my body :)

Ha ! I can't believe it !

I mean, I'm sorry for all of you guys (and girls) with rib cage issues.....

But all this time, I really thought it was only me !

So yesterday, I was looking in the mirror after working out (kind of a favorite pass time now ;) LOL) without sucking my gut in whatsoever... in fact, maybe pushing it out just a tad, but flexing my abs (still buried in a little fat, albeit, WAY less than 9 months ago ;)) and my rib cage didn't look that awefully stupid.
Then I started thinking.... Well, with my chest muscles about 3 inches thicker :) ....and my abs cut, and bulging..... Then I remembered another lame thing about my body, from all of my hard-core fitness training 25 years ago.... My abs are not symetrical :( Oh well. It's not like I'm ever going to win any contests anyway :) I just want to win the personal contest.

Peace,
Fish

Nice to know I'm not alone. :)

Well I have the exact opposite problem, my belly naturally pouts outwards. Even with transverse abs it really doesn't go in that far and looks about normal when I do this. I used to have bad anorexia (BMI 14) and even then had an outwardly pouting stomach, and on inbetween weights (BMI 17) I was continually asked if I was pregnant to the point where I would often break into tears.

I have not got a pointed rib cage, however if it helped reduce the dimenstion of a very large looking stomach I'd be all for it- at my lowest BMI my waist was always larger- not through being fat just as it seemed to jut forward. I spoke to a personal trainer once about it a year ago, (BMI 23) He said it was not due to fat, that it was protuding due to something inside my body but not fat (he tried to pinch it and said there was not enough to pinch) suggested I saw a natropath -which I cannot afford :( I did however cut out all dairy and saw a slight reduction. Just wish it had done more.

I also hate my build for being so large and so stocky- oh to have a slender torso! I have a horrible apple shape and the more I workout, the more muscle I build and boy does it show- bigger arms within a week (like 1 inch bigger within a month) just by doing 1x 30min arm session per week. Same with my thighs, cannot pinch any fat yet they are too big now to fit into my clothes size. Calves are just a joke- they even have cellulite too yet cannot pinch anything on them when standing.

Makes me mad as I put so much into my exercise yet it just increases my weight and body size, I am too afraid that if I stop the gym (all cardio 8-10 hours a week and then 2x30 mins on the powerplate a week, 1x weight machines for 30 mins a week) I'm afraid that if I stop I will gain so much weight so carry on going. And continue to get larger and larger.

Would love one of those slender runner type physiques only when I run I get shin splints, I worked around that by running on a steep incline but can only do this in short bursts, and it too seems to have increased the size of my thighs...

As for 'fewer calories going in...' I eat 1800kcals a day which I know is too much for losing weight but its so hard when I do cardio each day and even this is hard to stick to- just about do it by a fine hair line!

i hate my hands/wrists, lol...i have short stubby fingers and large boned wrists (and yes, it is bones, not fat)...and these are things that won't change no matter how much weight i lose! yes the fingers will get thinner, and perhaps 2 mm of fat may come off the wrist, but i will never have graceful looking hands :)

I always liked my hands because I have small wrists and very slender, long fingers. (My wedding ring is size 3 & 3/4.) As fat as I am, my fingers never really get bigger. I've always thought of them as my only petite body parts, lol. Then one day this guy where I used to work (whom I'm friends with), said my hands were "old lady hands"! (yeah, and I'm 24.) I guess because you can see my tendons when my fingers move. So I guess mine are not as graceful as I once thought...

when i got my engagement ring (i was about 230lbs) it was size 8.5, i had to get my rings resized to size 9 and 9.5...looking forward to getting them sized down again :D

Hey Shygemini.....

Too bad we can't swap hands and wrists ! I'm assuming your a female, as you complain that your hands and wrists will never look graceful.....

Where I, on the other hand, am a big chested, wide shouldered guy, who wants to get huge and ripped, but who has always had small, week hands, and thin wrists, that totally don't go with my body ! WTH ? :(

It's like, when I was being built, somebody said, "Well, these parts don't really go together..... but what the hey... it's Friday, and I want to get out of here... maybe nobody will notice" !

Ever see that Carl's Jr. commercial and the guy with the tiny hands ? ....okay, it's not quite that bad, but you get the point.

Anyway....

Peace,
Fish

lol yep i'm a female :)

I hate that I don't have hips! I don't naturally have a butt either, but I'm slowly growing one with weight training. Nothing seems to help my hips though.
