What do they do for an STD test?

Well I wasn't sure where exactly to put the question but I figured that the "wellness" section was appropriate. What all does a routine STD test entail for guys? Painful at all? Just trying to get an idea so I know what to expect. Obviously I haven't had one before, Im just thinking better safe than sorry.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I don't have any symptoms (scabs, warts, etc) but just thought I should get checked out since I have never had one. If its just a blood test that would be a breeze, Im wondering about that part where they are going for the "live sample".....sounds painful. I am going to get one either way, just wanted to be prepared for what they will do. Any guys report on the pain (if any)?

Thanks again

Actually the first thing they'll test you for because it is the most common STD is Chlamydia. For that they'll take a cotton swab and rub the inside of the urethra and dip it in a tube and send it to the lab. I don't think it's painfull, maybe embarrasing and uncomfortable for 10 seconds. The blood test will test for HIV/AIDS.

You dont have to have warts to have HPV, you will infect partners through your semen if you have it and don't know it. A lab test will give you those results as well.

...when I was pregnant, but there is also so much else going on at that time .

That's an understatement LOL.

By the way. HPV not only causes warts but it has been linked to cause some types of cervical cancer. Up to now HPV was one STD without a cure. There is a vaccination now for women, I think they will automatically give it to girls from 9-25 and I'm sure infected women as well.

Just thought I'd pass that on :)

Stick a swab down the urethra? My god that sounds not only embarrasing and unconfortable but that sounds damn painful! Im sorry but I meen a cotton swab isn't that SMALL. Well sorry for that but I guess best of luck to you man.

it's not a cotton swab, it's like a miniature q-tip. And it does hurt a little, but certainly not unbearable.
