What are the signs that you are overtraining?

Hello,

I'm wondering what indications your body/mind will give, to say you have trained too much (ie, too frequently, too intensely, or for too long)?

What are the clear signs/symptoms of overtraining that are not attributable to other things in your life?

And what is the best action to take when you 'suddenly' realise that reached this level of 'overtraining'? ie, if you feel fine one day, then the next day you wake up and feel like you can't be motivated to do anything, what should you do to get back to 100%?

The reason I wanted to discuss this is because this is how I feel today - I can't find motivation to move my muscles for any reason, least of all more exercise. I'm not 'sore' but my muscles don't want to move. I feel extremely fatigued and sleepy. Yet I was at 100% yesterday, and I have only been training for two days since having a two day break.

Yesterday my training consisted of:
-Weight training (chest and triceps, 1 hour, minimal rest between sets/exercises).
- Running (3 x 20 min intervals at 170-180bpm).
- Flexibitility training (1.5 hours, entire body - calves, thighs, glutes, torso, etc.).

And on monday my training was just 1.5 hours of MMA training (sparring, drills, plyometrics).

About me - 22 years old, 68kg 176cm (150lb 5'9"), been training for ~6 months.

You may just be having an off day. There are some days that I fell like s--t and don't feel like working out. I have confidence in my own desires to know these days are few and I get back into the groove soon.

I was feeling the effects last week - HARD. These are some of the specifics I went through.

My legs didn't want to work. I felt like I was dragging my feet all the time.
NO energy.
My balance was horrible.
Had a loss of enthusiasm for my whole workout.
Overall soreness - mainly in the lower body.
Wasn't as hungry.
Very fatigued and sleepy though couldn't really sleep (went to bed at 10pm - woke up at 12, 2, 4, and 6am.)

The day I felt all of these was a planned Lower Body workout day. Instead, I ended up doing relaxing low intensity cardio (45min/3 machines) just to ease things out a bit. That night, I had a bit to eat then just laid on the couch for a couple of hours and watched Christmas movies. Felt a ton better the next day and did a whole body workout.

another reason could also be a lack of off-season, coz i carried on throughout the winter last year and was knackered round april :s
