One year ago today I bought a scale and figured out how much I weighed once and for all. I was always chubby growing up and wrestled at 189 in high school. Back then at that weight I thought I was fat, now I'd give my left nut to weigh that.
After wrestling ended my huge eating habits continued minus the 4 hour insane workouts and I went up to about 220. Again...I WISH I weighed that now. Anyway I knew I had been gaining weight in college but had no idea what I weighed. I wasn't too surprised when I stepped on the scale and saw 321. I didn't feel like a 300+ person (though I could feel getting bigger) and never thought I'd be one of *those* people. So that day I decided I was going to lose the weight once and for all. I read the South Beach Diet and stuck to it for the first 2-3 weeks but later went to my own diet as it was extreme for me. I lost 20 pounds in 20 days but only about 7 pounds came off for good as it shot up for no real reason and I was around 313. I started by walking up a large hill everyday and that was enough. I moved in September and joined a gym and started lifting weights and walking on the treadmill.
My gym had a contest in January that I took first place in and I won a free year added to my membership. I went to the gym 30 times that month but in the process got huge blisters on the bottom of my right foot. I decided to try the elliptical to save my foot so I could still work out. The first time I tried it I lasted about 5 seconds. I kept trying it and it got easier. I just felt weird at the time. I eventually worked my way up to one hour a day on the thing.
I dealt with a plateau the from February to May going up and down the same 7 pounds or so. Since June 1st I have lost 10.5 pounds. I recently bought a mountain bike and now ride it to the gym 3 miles, do weights and back home. I love the bike and find it much more enjoyable than the elliptical or treadmill.
Here are my one year totals.
July 10, 2007 = 321 pounds (21 years old)
July 10, 2008 = 264.5 pounds (22 years old)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS: 56.5 POUNDS
I went from a diet of fast food and eating without a care in the world to moderation and usually healthy eating. I am 5'8" for those wondering. Here are some before and after pics.

I have faith that on July 10, 2009 I will be in the 100's for the first time since I was 14 or so. Then I will ask Steve how to bulk up like him, haha.
