You'd think that I'd have thought to check the introductions section sooner.
So, I'm Ryan, I'm 21, from Brisbane, Australia. I spent all of 2008 and 2009 studying Cert III, IV and Diploma of Fitness, and have a gym history spanning all the way back to when I was 15 and discovered to my delight that there's usually a very big part of the gym that isn't treadmills. While I never wanted to be huge, I thought gyms were just places people go to lose weight, and I was already underweight with no muscle OR fat, so you can imagine why I resented my parents for signing me up to a gym membership without first seeking my approval...that is of course until I entered the gym and discovered weights.
I'm generally fit at the moment, but, despite my years of gym experience, I'm hardly an elite athlete or bodybuilder or anything of the like.
I'm about to start work at one of the local Fitness First clubs, which will mean a 1-year contract as a personal trainer. I'm pretty happy about being the only trainer there with a diploma. As a diploma graduate, I have specialisations in moderate risk cardio-pulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal and neurological disorders; training children; aqua training; and advanced strength and conditioning. Of course, even knowing what I know, I'm very aware that my two years of intense study is still only the tip of the iceburg, and there's a lot for me still to learn.
Some of you may be familiar with my journal. It's the first time in a long time that I've tried sticking with a set program, and even now I'm tweaking it here and there.
Outside of fitness details, important things to know about me are:
- I'm a Christian.
- I'm a nerd.
- I'm a dork.
- I have a girlfriend who is also a dorky Christian nerd.
- I sing karaoke sobre, but I'm not Asian. According to an Asian friend's sister, this means I don't exist.
- I love being creative, writing songs and stories, though I seldom have the time to let my creative juices cultivate these days. Before studying fitness, I studied Diploma of Music Industries, but, like all good music professionals, refused to do a few assignments to rebel against the man. The teacher man. The man who would have otherwise let me pass the course.
