Weighted Crunches - how the hell do you do them?

Hi

I'm trying to do weighted crunches and reverse crunches but am having difficulty. I want to stick to the 12 rep range so need to weight them.

I can't get comfortable doing them. Weighted crunches aren't so bad but reverse crunches are really hard because you have to try and balance a barbell between your legs as you lift them and risk, the weight falling and landing on top of you.

Can someone please tell me how you weight your crunches and reverse crunches?

Thanks...

My gym has dumbbells with rubber on the ends, i just stick a 10 or 15 pound dumbbell between my feet. It's not that hard to keep it in control.

LeiYunFat do you mean where you hang from a bar, and then lift your legs up so that they are parallel to the floor? they good are they?

Oh, I was talking about lifting your legs with your knees bent. Sort of like crunching your knees to your chest, but not going up so far. You can hold a weight in between your knees and use your abs to lift it. It works your hip flexors too, but I'm pretty sure the emphasis is on your abs. I could be mistaken, though.

Lifting your legs up completely and as they are straight is a pretty good exercise as well. It also has a lot of hip flexor work. However, I feel it is more effective to target the abs by doing this same exercise on an incline bench or on the floor. But then again, my hip flexors aren't the strongest parts of my body.
