Here is the short of it:
I am around 5ft6, 70kg (156lb) and a 24yo female. I have started resistance training with a personal trainer. I work out with my PT three times a week, doing mixed body weights, followed by half an hour of cardio, and then do another hour of cardio on top alone another day of the week. She has me eat five meals a day (carbpro, carbproveg, carbproveg, provegfat, profat) which usually comes to around 1200cal and then I snack on a handful of nuts on top.. I'm careful of how many though!
In the weeks 2 and 3 I did seem to lose weight, going from around 70.1kg to 68.7kg.. and in terms of my measurements I did lose some (minimal) off my stomach and waist .. I'm talking say 0.1 of an inch per week. But at the end of week 3 I was celebrating finishing an exam and probably had an average of 1800cal per day for 3 days. Now, on week 4 my weight has shot back up by 1kg and even my measurements have gone back up the inches I had previously lost. If eating just 600x3=1800cal more can cause me to gain weight.. does this mean there's something wrong with my metabolism?? Do I need to be eating even less than the 1200/1300 I'm on currently to lose weight?
Background: five years ago I weighed 85kg and decided to lose weight for the first time. I did 3 hours of cardio a week and ate 1200cal per day (I didn't starve don't worry I just had a lot of veg fish sweet potato etc).. needless it say it was pretty straightforward and I dropped to 65kg in 5/6months. After that my weight fluctuated between 65-69kg with me always eating relatively healthy, making good food choices by habit and occasionally going to the gym.. over those years if I ever needed to lose weight I'd just stick to my 1200cals 3xcardio more religiously and usually could lose about 0.5kg a week doing that..
September 16 my ex broke up with me and I took it badly, my diet and health suffered for sure.. by January I was up at 72kg, not fitting in my clothes and feeling pretty rubbish about myself. So as always I spent a month doing 1200cal 3xcardio and I even completely cut out alcohol for the first time.. but I didn't lose any weight.. maybe 0.5kg over the whole month but I wasn't seeing any movement on the tape measure. At this point I was recommended to start weight training and.. here we are
So, I wonder what's happened to my metabolism.. does anyone have any experience of gaining weight/not really losing weight quickly with weight training and cardio?
Oh on a side note I drink a lot of water (3L a day minimum) and please don't tell me I must me measuring food wrong because I'm that person using a weighing scales to home cook 4/5 meals to eat cold later from a Tupperware, haha!
