Weight Training and Running

What do you guys think about combining running and weight lifting?

Here's my story:

I'm 5'9 182lbs. About 5 weeks ago I started running on a daily basis to get my fat ass into shape and lost 8 pounds since then (used to weigh 190). I still want to keep running to loose more of this gut I have. But I also want to start lifting to tone up a bit. I'm not necessarily looking to gain alot of muscle mass, just tone up. I haven't started lifting yet but I want to next week.

So would it make sense to keep running every day and then lift on Mon, Wed, and Fri? Or would that a little too much? Should I run on the days I'm not lifting?

What kind of lifting routines are you doing? Full body?

At this point, none. I haven't started weight training yet, but I want to.

Also - you're not going to get anywhere without DIET! What does yours look like?

I am trying my best to improve my diet every day. I was never much of a fruit & vegetable kind of guy. But now I am trying to eat more fruit and vegetables with every meal. I'm still on 3 meals a day (I know more meals left often is better)...but with working it's hard to eat more often like this. I agree this is something I need to work on and figure out. As far as a specific diet, I don't really have one. But I am trying to eat healthier every day. In fact, I threw out all the junk food in my house a few weeks ago :)

Develop a solid routine, along with a solid diet which is even more important. Look around, and ask for more help.

I would stay away from lifting and running on the same day, unless they are at separate times, like morning and evening. Lifting mwf and running 3 other days seems pretty good, but take a day off sometime.

I agree^^
alternate between fullbody weightlifting and running/other cardio every other day. The allround fitness you will get is great and once your body adjusts to this higher level of activity you will actually feel sick if you dont exercise for a couple of days!

weight training and cardio go hand in hand. You need both, but try to keep them to separate days. If you ahve to do them both on the same day, then most people recommend doing your cardio AFTER your weight regimine.
