Weight loss TV shows that you enjoy

I actually enjoy "Bulging Brides" even though I rather question the science behind it all. I'm not sure why it is, maybe it just makes me happy to see them squeeze into their dream dress at the end

I know! Bulging Brides seems so formulaic too - the bride always goes off her diet for a day, and then gets the super tough workout with her friends afterwards... it makes it out as though to get in the dress you must SUFFER. And there was one episode where they were blaming all the protein in the sushi a girl was eating and not her wine drinking habit (or maybe that was Last Ten Pounds Bootcamp...)

Either way, it is always nice to seem the fit into the dress with room to spare, regardless of the science behind it :) Who doesn't like a happy ending?

mtv's i used to be fat, mainly because its zoned into people my age so i guess that helps me to connect more with it in terms of why they want to lose the weight and ways that could help me to in a better sense... plus some people are on there are almost the same as me in terms of height / weight, and seeing them when its all done is definitely motivation in itself...

time for a walk to the store and back lol

"the Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp" motivates me. Its exactly the same as Buldging Brides. I realize that it is unrealistic, but watching it makes me want to work out.

Also, I like X-Weighted (its Canadian I think). Follows a person, or family, for 6 months while they lose weight. It's inspirational.

Annnd, "I Used to Be Fat" is a good one too. All remind me its possible to get thinner :) used to watch Biggest Loser, but I get frustrated when the contestants are upset over losing "only" 6 pounds in a week. pfft

I know! I just started watching Biggest Loser...and whenever they start to be upset over -6lbs...i'm like "HOLD UP!!!! I would love to lose half that in 1 week!!!!!" lol

While I understand that often these shows can be unrealistic I find that anything that keeps me motivated is helpful right now (shows, magazine, this forum, etc). Some of my favorites right now are I Used to Be Fat, Supersize vs. Superskinny, Dance Your Ass Off and Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp. I've watched a few others now and then but these ones I watch pretty regularly.

My daughter & I are on a "diet" (ready healthy lifestyle makeover) together. She is 19, so we are pretty into watching 'I used to be Fat' & 'Heavy'. I guess it's just nice to see other people who start off struggling...who manage to do it (or sometimes not). I like that they have the supervised/unsupervised portion on both shows.
I mean, if you're locked iun a facility with NO options...of course you'll lose weight. It's people who can still do it on their own that inspire me.
Realistic, unrealistic, or formulatic...they halep us realize we are not going through all of this alone. The sometimes overwhelming, the excitement, and even the occassional disappointment in yourself or those around you who seem to almost TRY to sabotage you.

I'm also a new convert to Biggest Loser (thanks Hulu Plus).

My biggest problem with the show is how these 400 pounders can actually do that much excersise safely. I mean we don't hear much about stiffness and joint pain that they MUST have and it MUST be treated daily by a professional.
I'd actually be quite interested in the recovery phase after an unfit person does a heavy workout bu I've never seen it get much attention on the show.

5 minutes on recovery and slice 5 minutes off the 'drama' of the weigh-in.

I love love love the biggest loser. It has no reflection on real life and I think what they do to themselves is mental and I would never do it. But yet I still like it .... Not really sure why!!!

That is a great point! I really enjoy Biggest Loser. I think it can be very inspirational. I suppose there's a chance that folks watching at home might get into the mindset of thinking they need to be sequestered in a fitness compound to make progress, but hopefully they get the message that if the people on the show can do it, anybody can!

But, yeah ... there has to be a ton of medical intervention to keep people on the show from blowing out knees and ruining ankles, etc. It would be cool if we got to see some of that.

After reading these posts I may actually begin to watch these shows. I never watched them because...I didn't really like the idea of it but it seems cool watching as people change over time. I mean that is why I joined these forums [besides for my own weight loss].

Well I like the biggest loser!
Even though most (if not all) of the scenes might be staged and "fake" and the whole suspense if planned out I still like the fake drama and the over-the-top music while they weigh in :p
