I used to avoid these when I was overweight, but when I started to get healthier and exercise more; I really started to enjoy them.
What TV shows do you watch on the subject? I know in America you guys have "the biggest loser".
Over in the UK we get two that I particularly enjoy; Supersize vs Superskinny. The premise is that one very overweight person and one very underweight person live in a house together for a week and swap diets. Along the way, by watching what the other person is now eating (their own diet) it shows them the error of their ways. They then are given a normal healthy eating plan and come back for the standard "after" shots.
The second one is pretty low budget and, oddly, a pretty terrible piece of TV. If it was on any other subject matter I'd probably hate it. It's called; Fat Families. The premise of this is that a whole family is overweight and each week this annoying man goes round their house. Takes on their diet for the day and then instantly changes it the next day, they revamp the living room (this normally means putting a running machine where the sofa was) and then he watches them over the next few weeks on web cams in their house. At the end of the show they have some form of "fitness challenge" that is similar to something they tried earlier in the show and they pretty much always suceed. The time period is 8 weeks, so when the after shots come they don't look mentally different like you see on some shows, but it's definately progress.
Sometimes they do a recap show of this where the family goes to a restaurant and he tests to see if they have learnt from their ways and what food they order etc. It's genuinely terrible, but entertaining.
