Weight loss TV shows that you enjoy

I used to avoid these when I was overweight, but when I started to get healthier and exercise more; I really started to enjoy them.

What TV shows do you watch on the subject? I know in America you guys have "the biggest loser".

Over in the UK we get two that I particularly enjoy; Supersize vs Superskinny. The premise is that one very overweight person and one very underweight person live in a house together for a week and swap diets. Along the way, by watching what the other person is now eating (their own diet) it shows them the error of their ways. They then are given a normal healthy eating plan and come back for the standard "after" shots.

The second one is pretty low budget and, oddly, a pretty terrible piece of TV. If it was on any other subject matter I'd probably hate it. It's called; Fat Families. The premise of this is that a whole family is overweight and each week this annoying man goes round their house. Takes on their diet for the day and then instantly changes it the next day, they revamp the living room (this normally means putting a running machine where the sofa was) and then he watches them over the next few weeks on web cams in their house. At the end of the show they have some form of "fitness challenge" that is similar to something they tried earlier in the show and they pretty much always suceed. The time period is 8 weeks, so when the after shots come they don't look mentally different like you see on some shows, but it's definately progress.

Sometimes they do a recap show of this where the family goes to a restaurant and he tests to see if they have learnt from their ways and what food they order etc. It's genuinely terrible, but entertaining.

What stuff do you watch and enjoy?

I used to dislike watching The Biggest Loser because it seemed to me that so many people were so ungrateful, despite the golden opportunity they'd been given.

Now, I can't watch it because I'm on a weight loss journey myself, and it makes me cry!

I like the biggest loser. I like seeing that you can push yourself so much harder than people give themselves credit for :)

Also it gives me good nutrition tips and exercies.
That supersize vs superskinny show sounds awesome to watch! I wish I got that show where I live!

I actually enjoy "Bulging Brides" even though I rather question the science behind it all. I'm not sure why it is, maybe it just makes me happy to see them squeeze into their dream dress at the end :p

I like most of the ones i've seen. Biggest loser, celebrity fit club here in the usa. I've watched some episodes of supersize vs. superskinny on youtube, that's a good one too.

yeh i watch the biggest loser everytime i remember its on, its on everyday in england. supersize v superskinny me is very good aswell.

i`d love the biggest loser video game but i`d have to buy a wii or xbox kinnect so its quite pricey.

I don't like any of them. For me they are on the same level as Big Brother, and I wouldn't watch that if it was the last show on earth.

They are fake, the stuff that they are showing doesn't reflect reality, and there is so much manipulation behind the scenes that it's not even funny any more.

Plus, in the case of Biggest Loser etc., what they show is extremely unhealthy and more often than not, even dangerous if tried at home.

well people really love the shows your talking about so your opinion is void sorry

Ha at using the phrase 'your opinion is void' to anyone! Ego much?

Anyway - I do agree that often this kind of TV is promoting unhealthy methods of weight loss (eg. sudden diet change, overly strenuous exercise etc) but I do watch these shows now and then for entertainment value ... I just make sure to take them with a pinch of salt.

I have to say Fat Families is just hilariously terrible. The amount of euphemisms that guy has for fat people is never ending. I don't think I've ever heard so many slurs for the obese. It makes me chuckle.

*lol*...no worries, I've got a healthy ego so I can live with the fact that my opinion is 'void'....:smilielol5:

And I have to admit, I haven't watched all the shows that people mentioned. I have seen Biggest Loser and 'Bulging Brides', and thought they were horrible. Can't comment on any of the other ones.

All comes down to personal taste though, and I guess if anybody can take anything out of those shows that helps them with their personal weight loss, then that's a good thing, and I say more power to them! :)

...says the dude named "scottsblue", because apparently Scott is so blue with pain that the only picture he could muster for his avatar was one where he is being all mopey, hand on cheek and everything, acting as if his pet dog and only friend, Jingles, died of old age this past weekend, so now he doesn't have aaaaanybody that wuvs him, boo hoo, so he thought he'd reach out to the world via the internet and put on a pretend-to-be-emo persona in order to get people to feel sympathy for him, because if you feel sympathy from someone, "(said in a mopey voice) At least you feel SOMETHING". Yeah, because THAT'S what people find to be genuine and enjoyable. You obviously know what people "really love" :rolls eyes:

i just thought it was a bit silly becuase anyone doing a hard working job are working as hard as they do on biggest loser everyday of there lifes. so i couldnt understand how somone can say being in the army or being a builder is bad for your health when these people are classed as fit for doing a hard working job.

Not the same thing.

The contestants on Loser are put on an exercise and diet plan that is unrealistic and in many ways just down right unhealthy. If you look at followups for contestants, you will find more regained that weight (and some cases more). The show idolizes unhealthy weight loss.

and some contestants kept up there exerciseing, healthy eating and lost more weight. you cant be seriouse saying eating healthy and exerciseing on a weight loss forum is unhealthy.

Sure I can. Watch me.

dieting by cutting your calories too sharply and exercising to the point that you can damage your body is unhealthy.

Everything is about moderation when it comes to weight loss. Cutting calories in a reasonable and healthy way is good. Cutting like they do for Biggest Loster is not.

Exercise is great..exercising to the level the contestants do for the speed they do it is not.

They suggest 1% of body weight a week is reasonable..how many people on the show have you seen lose more than that in 1 week? Plenty cause they push them hard. They don't really learn to portion their own meals or nutrition or calorie count.

There is a reason many doctors decry their methods. It isn't a show to hold up there as a model for weight loss.

Weight loss TV show now so popular and most of the people enjoy it. Rea;u it can be so helpful for maintain health and fitness.
