First of all, I apologize if this is in the wrong spot, this is my first time posting here. When I was lurking around here a couple months back (still am) there were these really neat tools where I could input my weight, activity, intensity, and duration and it would tell me how many calories I could potentially burn. Of course there were many other cool resources too but I don't know if they were on this site or another since I can't seem to find them anymore, if anybody could tell me for sure where to find these that would be awesome as I plan to start my weight loss journey very soon. Thanks!
 
Calories burned calculators like that usually tend to drastically overestimate the amount that you burned off. Even the ones on gym machines and such are likely to give you a much more extreme number than what you actually burned. The only real, accurate way to go, if you have your heart set on calculating calories burned, is a heart rate monitor.

Just thought I'd put that out there; if all you want is a rough(and it's just that, rough) estimate then using stuff like that is fine, but.. If you're going to incorporate such a number in your plan, then get a heart rate monitor.

What do you suggest is the variance? 10-20%? If so, one could adjust the #s they get for that amount and still get a fairly accurate reading. I always use the # on the machines since I don't calculate the amount that my daily activity eats in ie I don't include walks I make with my children or jumping on the trampoline(which I do for 30 minutes at the time with my ipod just to 'think') so I figure it's ok to go with the # on the machines as the calculation considering that fact.

If that is strictly the only activity one gets, then I see your point. I have a feeling though the more active one gets, the more they don't include the active things they do on a daily basis in their counts, even stuff that could be considered 'exercise' like bike riding or walking, anyway so they really are getting more movement then they realize.

Just a thought on the calories burned thing.
 
Thanks for the calculator, it's not the one but it will do just as good. Thank you for the information as well, I'll need any bit of info I can get. :)
