Weight Loss Therapy

I was reading last month's "O" magazine and there was an article about a therapist that "trained" people out of their bad habits. It was an interesting read and she has a book. Forgive me for not bringing the title. I didn't take the magazine with me or write it down but it was something like "Thinking like a Thin Person". So the article walked through a lady who wanted to control her appetite. One of the exercises the therapist had her do is spend one day where you only eat breakfest and dinner. You end up going like 8-9 hours without food. Now for the why. I found this fascinating! She was talking about hunger. Have you ever sat down so hungry you thought you would just die and then you inhale a pizza, sundae, etc. You don't just eat but you all but swallow your food whole! I have been there. I used to tell myself I was hypoglycemic and if I didn't eat and I felt hungry I had to get something in me right away or else I would die!! ;) However I didn't have any of the signs of actual hypoglycemia. Go figure.
So back to the point: going that long without food forces you to ignore your hunger until you get your dinner and you should notice that hunger isn't the end of the world and that you can go all day and you won't pass out and you won't die... now if you actually have hypoglycemia or diabetes etc. this isn't a smart thing to do.
So I did this yesterday. I made one modification in that I ate a banana and a 100 calorie snack pack for "lunch" because I wanted the energy for the gym after work. So in the am I had a bowl of cheerios (1 cup) with raspberries(2 Tbsps). I went all day with just my "lunch" until like 6:30 which was a small chicken breast, .25 cup of pasta with alfredo sauce, and .5 cup of broccoli and cheese. I was busy all day and after a bit didn't focus on hunger so much. I thought it was a great exercise and I am trying to settle myself with the idea that though hunger is uncomfortable it isn't the end of the world and shouldn't be the end of my diet either.

Just a note: this is not an everyday thing. I try for 1200-1500 calories a day normally. This is just a one day exercise. You will go crazy if you try to do it too often and it's not healthy to starve yourself!!
