weight loss stopped, large calorie deficit, high exercise

Hi there,

I'm just wondering if anybody has any tips for me because i have been doing so good and then it's like my weight loss completely flatlined.

Okay. So a while ago, i weighed 244 pounds. I started off doing yoga 5-7 days a week for 45 minutes to an hour, eating one subway footlong sub a day and 1-2 cups of coffee, along with 1-2 cans of coke zero and water the rest of the time. Also a piece or two of fruit every day.

So that worked great, very easy. Got down to 218 pounds. No problem at all.

Now, when i hit that, i stopped eating subway subs, but i started eating more varied meals at home that had roughly the same calorie count. Throughout this time, i have been getting 1000-1200 calories a day. Nothing different in value of food, but just didn't do the Subway diet anymore. i just had salads instead and, you know, one or two small pieces of meat at a time depending on the circumstance. But like i said, my caloric values didn't change, or if anything, went down.

Now, that was about three weeks ago. i have been hovering around 218-220 now since then and have not lost any weight.

About a week after i hit 218, i dropped my calories per day from 1000-1200 to 600-800 since i wasn't continually losing weight anymore. Still didn't produce any results.

i tried switching a week ago to doing 100 situps a day instead of my yoga but that hasn't done anything for me yet. i basically just stopped losing weight. i thought maybe a switch-up of exercise would help, but it didn't.

Right now, i literally eat two regular-sized bowls of raisin bran a day plus a large dinner-sized salad with a homemade Italian dressing that is kind of fatty, but i haven't worried too much about it since i am hardly eating anything. It is basically a serving of 2 tablespoons of canola oil with seasoning and a little vinegar, nothing serious. i also use wheat bread croutons that i make from home as well, that have butter and the same seasoning on them. i usually have about 8-12 of those in my salad. That is IT for what i eat in a day. Sometimes, once or twice a week, i make banana bread or eat fruit once in a while.

So starting today, i decided maybe i should step up my workout to 1.5-2 hours a day, so i am now doing 100 sit-ups AND yoga every day. Going to try to keep this up 5-7 days a week.

I work out of my house, so i am largely sedentary most of the rest of the time because i work at a desk.

My question is, anybody have any idea why i would not be losing weight anymore? i feel like i should be because i am tired a lot and feel weak regularly throughout the day. i used to be hungry a lot, like all the time, but that has largely petered out over time and i am not hungry a lot like i used to be, but i am sometimes. i just don't do anything about it, or i'll have a banana or something very small in terms of calories.

Furthermore, if anybody has any advice on why i am not losing weight, do you know of anything i can do to start losing weight again?

I am 5'9" (69 inches), 27.8% body fat, 220 pounds, and i would like to get down to 150 or so if possible. i have a multi-vitamin every day to make up for some of my missed nutrients from dieting. i just don't know where to go from here.

Thank you so much in advance. i have read a lot and I think maybe i am getting too much of a calorie deficit, so now my body doesn't want to let go of the fat i have. i don't care too much what i weigh, just that i get rid of all this fat i have around my stomach area. If i lose most of my stomach/abdominal fat, i probably will stop tracking my weight, but i just have no idea where to go from here.

i don't want to start eating more and risk gaining more weight than i have already if that's not my problem. Anybody have any input? Again, i really appreciate it. I hope i included all the information you need.

Hello, what you have basically done is put your body into starvation mode so that it fights hard to hold onto very calorie you take in. This is why you are not losing weight. Your body has slowed your metabolism down to a crawl to adjust to your calorie intake. What you need to do is start eating 5 to 6 small balanced meals a day. Each meal should have should have some protein and some carbs. This sounds hard but its really not. Have a nice breakfast. The cereal is fine but maybe add a hard oiled egg for some extra protein. A couple of hours later have a small snack like some peanut butter on a piece of toast. Then a couple of hours later a have lunch, small ham or turkey sandwich. Skip the chips and have carrots or celery if you need something crunchy. Afternoon snack can be a 1oz serving of nuts or something similar. Then a healthy dinner with some lean protein and vegetable carbs. Thats it. Try and keep the portions small to keep the calories down but I would not go below 1500 calories a day. Skip the sit-ups as they are not the best exercise for losing weight. Go with some high intensity interval training instead. Try one minute of high intensity exercise (Burpee, jumping jacks, running in place, high knees, skaters, squat jumps) just keep moving and keep the heart rate up. Then recover for one minute. Do this for 30 to 45 minutes per day before your yoga. After a week or so you should try and start cycling your calories. The trick its to keep your body guessing in regards to your calorie intake so it can't adapt and slow you down. Good Luck.
