then i jog for around 10 min and then 3 min sprint.should i run for longer or at the start befor i lift weights i have lost around 8-9 pounds and i eat at most 1600 cals a day

oh my friend has put on 1 stone of muscle he can see his abs so its not fat since we started

The bluntest answers?

You are most likely eating more than you think. You are 16 (based on other posts). You are most likely underestimating your intake by a good deal.

Second, weight lifting does jack for fat loss. It help reduce the muscle you lose from weight loss. You want to lose fat. To lose that you need to pump up that cardio second, fix your eating first.

thanks for the advice Jericho im soon to start joging on week days and for next week i have no school so im going to sort out my eating habits

One more thing..don't think of this as a race. You said you lost 8-9 pounds. That is still 8-9 pounds no long on you and you didn't go gaining so you know what?

That is a success!

Yeah, eating right is the key to losing weight. I'd suggest that you register for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

You should be doing about 30mins to an hour of cardio to burn some fat. If you are focusing on gaining muscle mass at the gym instead of doing cardio then it would only seem natural that you are not seeing a weight reduction but are seeing changes in your appearance.
