Hi! I'm 5 ft. 2.5in. and I weigh 155 lbs. I'm looking to loose about 30 lbs. because #1- I don't feel very good about myself, and #2- I'm worried about developing health issues. But my problem is that I'm a college student. So my meals aren't always the best and they are very irregualar. I have classes right through the time the cafeteria is open most days, so i don't eat lunch. And since i'm up so late doing homework or at meetings, I usually dont' get up early enough in the morning to eat more than some dry cheerios in my dorm room. Plus my excersise is very irregular because of the clash of hours the campus gym is open with my schedule. I realize that in order to loose the weight i'm going to have to make a lifestyle change. But does anyone have any sugestions on how to make a lifestyle change when I have such a strict schedule and not much options as far as heathy foods. In the cafeteria we always have fruit and a salad bar which I always eat. Other wise its hot food, fast food, ethenic food, or sandwiches. But I don't even know where to start when it comes to eating healthier. Please, as you can see I need any suggestions you have!! Thank you in advance!!

I'm in college as well. It is very hard to get a routine going when your schedule changes on a day to day basis. Subway has been my best friend. for $5.53 i can have 2 meals a day. So when i'm super strapped eating healthy is taken care of cause i get the chicken on wheat with all the veggies, and choke it down. I drink only water all day long in class and during studies. Helps with the hunger pangs during the day.

But really just be conscious of what you eat and i think you will be fine.

Try to find a day where you can make a weeks worth of chicken breasts and keep lots of raw veggies around. Drink a lot of water.

Going to the salad bar and stuff is good, just make sure you're choosing the right things from it, not everything is going to be healthy. Same goes for everything else, including fast food, there are healthier options. As Rowe mentioned Subway is great, and even at other places you can choose to get a salad instead of a burger and fries or something along those lines.

I'm sure you already are, but just remember to stay away from fried foods, really fatty foods, etc... if you do have to eat out a lot check out the places nutrition facts online and make sure you're getting the best option. Just make smart decisions.

I've lost about 100 pounds since I started college. I'm a Junior now though, it's been a slow process, but that's better than giving up and gaining even more weight.

I totally understand how you feel! I'm a Bio-Sci major and I always have long 3 hour labs. It's hard to make it to the dining hall and even when you are there -- the food choices are ehhh. Just definitely hit up the salad bar and stay away from the fried foods section. I know sometimes salads and fruits get boring so maybe try a sandwich! At our school, they always have different types of bread -- go for the whole wheat and then don't use mayo. ALSO OMG if you school has a PANNINI (SP?) machine for sandwiches -- use it! It makes it sSOO YUMMMM. GOOD LUCK! :)
