Weight loss diary (before pictures)

Well hello,

Let me introduce myself.

I am kalilalita, 22 years old and I am overweight.

Yes I am. I don't feel extremely bad about it (although I have done so in the past) but it's just so incredibly unhealthy. After years of struggling with different problems with food (bulimic, bingeing) I have found the mental strength to actually concentrate on losing weight and keeping it off. Or as I like to call it, making myself healthy.

I think its important to be healthy and therefore I will definitely not be starving myself or using ridiculous methods to lose weight. I have done this before and it amounted to absolutely nothing, just me feeling terrible.

I took some before pictures so I could compare them when I reach my goal weight.

My current weight is 73kgs/ 161lbs.

My goal weight is 60kgs/ 132 lbs.

So today was the first proper day of my diet.

Tried to do it yesterday but then all the shops were closed and I got an extra easter egg from somebody special and that was that.

So 10th of April 2012 was the first PROPER day of my diet.

What I had to eat was :

Two rye grain crackers with apple spread

Handful of almonds

A Berry Delight Nakd bar (230 kcals) = super yummy and really healthy

Porridge made with soymilk and coconut milk, with flaxseeds, coconut pieces and a few nuts and berries.

Two plates of 'stew' (Stew is the best way to call it : red lentils, peas, brown rice, kidney beans, chickpeas, garlic, onion, chicken stock and on top some assorted seeds, and extra cumin seeds) = it was delicious

Had some coffee and tea throughout the day. Drunk 2lts of water.

So whaddyathink?

I look forward to hearing from you...

I would like to make this diary a place where I can interact with other dieters and to all help us reach our goals.

:)

Hi kalilalita, welcome to the forum!!! Had to come and comment, we have really similar body shapes... and you're almost the exact same weight I started at!! We have a similar goal too!!

Your food for the day looks good, that stew sounds AWESOME!!! Would love the recipe if you get the chance to post it, it sounds like something easy I can throw in my slow cooker!!

Best of luck on your journey, I'll be keeping an eye on your journal

Hey luzdafuzz,

Thanks so much for getting in touch! So what kind of diet are you doing and are you exercising aswell?

I tend to just throw everything together when i cook, so im not exactly sure as to what the right measurements are...

Initially I wanted the rice to be the main thing for this dish, but then i quickly realized that it's actually pretty nice to have a whole mixture of everything..

So the recipe for the 'stew' is :

Boil some water, and put 2 cups of brown rice in it. Add Chicken or vegetable broth if you'd like.

In another saucepan, put the red lentils and dried green peas

Whilst the rice is boiling cut up one onion and two cloves of garlic and throw it in there.

This is also the time i put my herbs in there.

I put some cinnamon, cumin powder, red pepper powder, black pepper, salt and coriander powder. I also added a little bit of olive oil but this isn't needed.

After about 25 minutes, the rice should be slowly running out of water, so you throw in the red lentils & peas, including the water!

Then in another little saucepan heat up the red kidneybeans and the chickpeas.

You can turn the rice/lentil pan on a low heat now.

I suggest draining the kidney beans/chickpeas before putting it into the other saucepan because it really changes the taste i find.

Mix it all together in the pan, and VOILA! there you have it.

Put it on your plate, throw some seeds on it! The cumin seeds were a great addition! So much flavour!

It is such an easy dish! So delicious and extremely healthy as you can see! :)

Do you have pictures of yourself at your starting weight? Or a thread where you have your food diary?

I really look forward to hearing from you!

I really look forward to hearing from you!

I forgot to add that the red lentils and dried peas were a cup each, so were the kidney beans and chickpeas!

Day2:

Porridge with soy/coconut milk, linseeds, a few coconut pieces, raisins and almonds

2 pieces of dark brown bread with peanut butter

2 black coffees

1 cappucino with soy milk, and a bit of flower honey

4 pistachio's

1 plate of 'stew' (red lentils, peas, brown rice, kidney beans, chickpeas, garlic, onion, chicken stock and on top some assorted seeds, and extra cumin seeds)

Lemon mint ginger tea with a little bit of honey

Couscous with raisins, and vegetables and a slice of marinated chicken filet.

This is the first time I am writing a proper food diary and i am actually amazed at the variety of foods i eat on a day!

I must say when I was at work, we make these amazing american pancakes and my mouth was watering from the idea of just having one, but I regained my composure and didn't have it! So proud of myself! Normally, I can't say no to these incredibly overwhelming urges I get, but it just goes to show that its mind over matter!

A successful day! :)

Hey Kalilalita!! Thanks for the recipe, sounds super tasty!! I do have a journal, it's a new one though called 'Finishing what I started!'. Pretty sure in the first post it links to my old journal. There's pics n stuff all the way through my old one, otherwise there's a pic on my new one that I took day before yesterday. I also log everything I eat in my journal! I'm not currently exercising, I have really bad tendon damage in both of my quads (just above both of my knees) and actually pretty much can't even walk at the moment, had a week off work already and seeing a physio today. I injured myself in Oct last year and still managed to lose a heap more weight even being sedentary for like a month, so I'm confident I can do it again! (I wasn't disabled that whole time, I was off work a few weeks and it got a heap better and I was fine up until the last month, had to work HEAPS of extra hours over Easter with hardly any days off so it just flared up again majorly).

Pretty much what I'm tryin to say is, it's possible with or without exercise if you're determined!! Uhm, and your food all sounds SUPER INSANELY GOOD!!!!! :drooling: Do you not have dairy? I try to avoid it as much as I can too, I drink my coffee with almond milk!

Oh gosh, that sounds awful.. Hope you get better very soon... It's terrible being injured when you normally are very active..

I am allergic to cow's milk therefore I drink soy milk.. It's healthier in so many ways.... I love almond milk but it is so extremely expensive... Do you make it yourself??

Day 3

So today, I went a little bit off my diet.. Which is okay.. I am not beating myself up about it because if I do, i'll just end up eating more sugary food...

What I ate today:

1 piece of brown bread with peanut butter

Handful of cranberries

2 black coffees

A small cup of apple/carrot/ginger juice

1pc of port cake (was really yummy & i really enjoyed it)

Porridge made with soy milk.. It included linseeds, coconut rasp, dried cranberries & almonds

Soy cappucino

Glass of applejuice

2 pieces of brown bread with fig jam & old cheese (an amazing combo!)

Whole wheat pasta with tuna, tomato sauce, onion, garlic & carrots.

2 ltrs of water

All in all, a pretty okay day except for the port cake & fig/old cheese sandwiches.

I feel as if I am eating a lot which is great, yet I feel hungry every night.. Will this go away with time or will I forever be going to bed hungry?

Are there any extra weight loss tips I need to? All advice is welcome!

Once I have tried out some weight loss tips, I will post them on here!!

I have to say, even though it is day 3 of my diet, I can see a visible change in my face and on my back.

A digital hug to all dieters!
