My best friend and I started a 6 week weight loss competition. Now we are on our 2nd week and he lost 5 more pounds than I did.The prize is 500 bucks.
I'm on a strict diet around 1500 calories a day and I go to the gym 6 days a week and do an hour on eliptical and jog a little.

I need some exercise advice since a dont see a lot of improvement doing eliptical.

I'm 32 227 pounds 5'11

Thank you

is your friend bigger than you? bigger people tend to loose weight easier thus making your "competition" unfair. and restricting calories so low is not good for you in the long term and if you want to make this a lifestyle instead of a game. eliptical burns a fair amount of calories in terms of a good cardio workout. maybe take a class?? those probably can burn even more depending on the class (re: yoga probably wont but up beat classes like dance or body combat may)

PS if you want fair competition (because well $500 is a lot!!), unless you both weigh the same, you may want to rely on body weight percentage lost ex: 15 pounds lost divided by 150 (starting weight) is 10% of body weight lost

Exactly. Someone who weighs 350 lbs has a lot more weight to lose when compared to someone who weighs 250 lbs, so using "pounds lost" as the determining factor of who wins and loses isn't a fair standard.

Go with the % so it's fair.

Regardless of your starting weights, the fairest way to do any competition is by percent lost. We are currently having a "Biggest Loser" competition at the school where I teach, and we have a small prize each week for the weekly winner...it's all based on percent lost that week. The only fair way to compare!

Each "contestant" put in ten bucks to be part of the contest. At the end...after 3 months, we will award cash prizes to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place losers. Many women have already pretty much dropped out...they might lose one or two pounds one week, then gain the next. I am trying to take it seriously, and after 7 weeks, have lost 16 pounds!

Good luck in your "friendly" competition!

winning the contest

I won a contest in 07, 2200 people were registered the criteria was weight loss and an essay an how it changed your life. I was 400 lbs when I started by the end of the contest (113 days) I lost 114lbs. I did everything I could I researched and found ways to stay focused I execised and I used a program that worked for me. I would say to potential contestants that someone has to win! Be concious each moment about your heakth decisions and soon they will be good habits. set small goals and be generous to the other contestants, only one can win the contest but we all win the battle!
