Weight loss beginner UK :)

Hi there

I'm 29 yrs old, 5 feet and 4 inches in height and weight 150 pounds(10 stone 7 pounds)

I was always a very active child and teenager, I used to weigh about 8 stones.

After leaving university I gradually went up to my current weight and would like to slim back down to around 126 pounds ( 9 stones)

I was always very active and due to my long office hours Its crept up on me.

I began walking 5 hours a day last year and felt brilliant, although I didn't lose a great deal of weight (6 pounds), unfortunately I damaged
my achilles tendon and wasn't able to do much heavy walking for around a year.

I then took up yoga which is fantastic, but I haven't lost any weight at all, and the weight I did lose previously has crept back on.

I eat healthily so thats not an issue for me, but I decided to start with my walk to work again this morning and aim to keep this up 5 days a week.
Its a 4 mile walk which takes me about 45 minutes, I also walk at a fast pace.

I'm really wanting to build on my muscle tone, can anyone recommend any additional exercise I can do alongside my walking?

I don't have the money for the gym and don't have much space as I live with my parents.

Last year I bought a set of dumbbells, but I'm not sure what exercise I need to be doing as a beginner.

I'm sure my questions could be answered by reading other threads, but there are hundreds of them.

I may add some pics in the before and after section once I feel a bit more comfortable.

Thanks for reading

:)

Hi Acorn,

Just read that you're from Yorkshire too, its cool to see lots of tykes on here!

No specific advice cos I'm just starting out too but have a look at the threads, maybe try narrowing them down and searching for specific terms, eg if you wanted to sort out your stomch search for stomach exercises. Also try the online exercises DVD's or online trainers. There si some excellent stuff out there which will help you to get the right technique.

Hia chuck :)

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm doing loads of walking, sit ups, push ups and some light weights at the moment.

I bought a ministry of sound workout dvd too the other day, just waiting for it to arrive.

I'll let you know if it any good :D

'Ey Up!

I have a few of those ministry DVDs they are quite good but I think the dance gets a bit complicated at times. I think that Australian lass who does them has got an incredible body so its pure inspiration. Good music too!

Let us know how you get on with it.

1 week in...4 pounds lost...WOHOOO!!

I aimed at 2-3 pounds, not sure I really wanted to lose 4 in the first week as I want a steady weight loss, but I'm not complaining.

Fat to Fabulous....I love the ministry dvd, although I didn't manage to do all the high energy section, I think I'll need to build myself up to it :D
