Weight loss at a university cafeteria?

Hey everyone! :)

While I do have snacking problems at night due to "shopping" at the nearby store... I also may be having problems with eating at the cafeteria as well.

The website for the cafeteria dining does not include calorie or other nutrition information in the meals, which is somewhat to be expected (due to how much food they offer).

However, any tips on things I should try eating, avoiding? Have you noticed that certain foods in cafeterias tend to be unhealthy because they're processed? Things like that. :)

Thanks!

My university has about 3 or 4 choices. After being a changed person for over a year, things that are high in calories come naturally to me and I can normally spot the best option to have.

You basically need to educate yourself. Use website tools that show you how many calories are in foods, watch (unbiased) TV programs that talk about calories in food. Over in the UK we have a couple of cracking shows that do this (Supersize vs Superskinny and Fat Families).

My own advice for hitting the canteen would be:

Avoid the desserts; have fruit

Have the option that is the least processed

Fries are good as a treat, but not everyday (granted I don't know what USA uni food is like, but over here you can have Sausages and fries everyday if you wanted).

Try and have lots of veggies.

Go for leaner meats.

Sometimes the vegetarian option isn't always the healthiest (sometimes it can be covered in pastry or cheese).
