Weight loss and birth control

Won't go into too much detail here...but here's the situation.

I've been on birth control since 2001. Over the years my "TOM" has come to start like clockwork on the Wednesday of my "inactive" pill week. Until the past two times. At the end of February it started a day early, but still during the "inactive" week, but this time it's starting during my last "active" pill week...more than a week early.

I'm supposed to go to my doctor during the first week of April, but I'm curious now as to whether anyone else has had a problem like this after losing 50 pounds or so, while on birth control? I've been researching online, but can't find anything...

one of those things that few doctors will tell you - that when you're obese or overweight... the standard birth control you're on - generally isn't as effective as women who are of a healthy weight.. (and somewhere recently I read that 160lbs was the suggested number) the chances of women who are obese or overweight conceiving is also lower than women who are of a healthier weight - so it kind of balances out.

Losing 50lbs brings you a lot closer to healthy weight (you're a good sneeze a way from a healthy BMI) so I'd imagiine how your birth control is treating your body would also change...

Maybe it is time to change your BCP!
I used BCPs for 2 years and I changed several times, twice among them because I started spotting and would spot throughout the whole month. Talk about annoying!!

Have you done anything "uncommon" as in done 2 months in a row without a break or something like that? That would really screw my pill up for good. I always hoped it would work, but it never did and I started the spotting thing.

The body can get used to the pill in a way, so you may just need a different composition that your body is not so used to. And yes I think if you put 20mg of something into a 220 lb person it is a huge step different from putting 20mg into a 170 lb person!
However it seemed to be working correctly before the weightloss and not now (you should have your period in the rest week about 3 days after stopping the active pills), so I would just maybe try a different BCP.

Camy,

I've actually considered talking to my doctor about that at my appointment in a couple of weeks. I haven't skipped periods or even missed pills, so there's no obvious reason why this would be happening.

A while back...maybe a year ago...I was having some spotting while on Lo-ovral, so the doctor moved me up to the non-low form, Ovral. That took care of things until literally three weeks ago.

So I guess it's a list of questions for the doctor....
