weight gain

well, I am one of those people with very little body fat and a some muscle, my main problem is that I can not seem to put on any weight. I weigh 115 lbs and fluctuate within five pounds, and I have never seen above 120 lbs. I want advice as to what type of foods to eat. latley I have been eating a lot of cheeses and grain based things, does anyone know what kind of food I should eat, and more importantly what is a reasonable amount of fat in a food item, the type of cheese I get usualy has 90 calories total in a 1inX1in square and 60 of them are from fat. I assume this is a high number, is this true? And if I am to gain weight what is a good number of calories from fat per measurment? And one more question, how much weight is healthy to gain per week?

A little on my exersize habits, I usualy work out with 25 lb weights for about an hour each day before bed. Then usualy have no trouble going to bed, I know you realy shouldnt do it directly before going to bed, but I havnt had any problems.

EDIT: oh yes, I suppose I should also say my height is about 5'9"

Well, one more question about diet, I tend to drink about 2-4 pops a day, will this affect my health to much? And ethan, thx I will take what you said into consideration.
 
completely agree. try to ween yourself off of them. dont stop cold turkey. i hear ppl have problems when doing that.
 
Well Virus, if you're serious about gaining some weight and muscle mass, you'll have to work really hard for it. Ectomorphs like us simply have to do everything 'perfect', or we won't grow. Judging from what you say, it seems to me your workout isn't really very sophisticated etc =) Using weights of always the same lbs isn't really interesting... try to get hold of dumbels with weights you can add or remove.

First of all, read the whole topic abear posted, it covers almost everything the ectomorph should know.

Just one tip: if you don't gain any fat around the waist, then just eat, and keep on eating =) eat all you can, and then some. Try to eat at least 120 grams of protein a day for sure ! Also consume as much healthy food as you can: lots of fruit etc. Don't forget to drink excessively either.
And sleep enough, and make sure you aren't stressed... Stress is really bad for your digestion if you know what I mean :x You'll find it much harder to gain weight when you're always stressed out, than when you're relaxed.

I know my workout isnt the best, but all I have is two 25lb weights and 10 lb weights, I may get some later, but I dont know if it will happen or not. Oh and I did read everything abear posted, actualy I had read it previously but I did re-read it to keep it fresh in my mind. One thing that I do not understand is why I need to drink more, not that I have a problem with doing that, I would just like to know why, is it because it helps with digestion?
 
hello again, after mulling through the info more thoroughly I have another question, when it sais that you should eat one gram of protiene per pound of fat and 3 grams of carbs for every pound I weigh. Does that mean per day, per meal, per week what?
 
each day. so at 115lbs, take in around 115 grams of protein and 345 grams of carbs. doesnt have to be exact, just somewhere in the neighborhood.
