Weighing just once a month..

Is it a good/bad idea to diet/exercise and to just weigh once a month? I was weighing myself every week but if I didn't get the results I wanted during a week I would get upset and I was more tempted to cheat and not continue on with my routine.

I know this sounds dumb, but I weigh myself like 10 times a day (except on my cheat days like xmas!) but if I see myself weighing more than I did the day before I won't eat. I think seeing myself weigh more the next day makes me not want to eat much. That is my appetite suppressant.

Morning,

I generally go by inches. Every morning I'll grab the little flab on my hipbone and determine if it's bigger or smaller than before. Smaller, I weigh myself. Bigger, I don't. :)

In 2008, I plan on starting P90x, so I'll probably gain muscle (as I'm pretty close to my goal weight right now).

Enjoy,

Barbara

you have to do what works best for you...

Read the stickied t hread about the scale mentality and remind yourself that the number on the scale is just one more measurement - and shouldn't be your sole measurement to base progress on.

Amen to that!!!

I have no idea what is going on myself here. I have gone down a full 2 inches in waist and and fitting into new "goal" pants bought a few months ago, yet the scale hasn't dropped a pound..... Bizarre, but hell, I will take it!

My wife says I look skinnier, my coworkers say I look skinnier, I FEEL skinnier, so the scale can get bent.

I can't stop myself from weighing every day when I'm trying to lose weight. And even though I KNOW weight fluctuates, and I KNOW it's not the best thing to do, I do it. It drives me nuts but I do it anyway!

That would be close to fitting the definition of insanity.

I should have added a caveat to my post above......

I know people who weigh daily without issue. Few though. And by without issue, I mean they can be dieting, step on the scale, see a 2 lb uptick in weight, and not think twice about it or fret.

Most say it doesn't affect them negatively, but I then see them moan about a small uptick.

The number on the scale theoretically only matters to me because I want my weight to be in a healthy BMI range -and that's purely for my own ego (besides the BMI range is a lot higher than insurance table weights so I have a m uch better chance of getting to that :D ...

my jeans don't care what number it says on the scale and they still fit if I go up 15 lbs or down 10...

You must be building muscle. I have gotten so frustrated before when dieting and exercising my butt off literally. But I think that the reason the numbers on the scale weren't moving, even though I know I was getting thinner, was because I was starting to gain muscle.
