Water Weight?

Hey i lost 10lbs in the last 2 weeks .. i quit eating potatoes (i already eat REALLY healthy) and i watched my carbs/sugars but i also mixed up my cardio workout from all elliptical to adding some running and walking and housework, etc .. anyways my friend said i probably lost mostly water weight ... i know what this means when u starve yourself but what does that mean in my case? I've been drinking plenty of water and still working out,etc ... just curious .. i dont think i could have lost any muscle weight even though i missed the gym the last two days from being at the dentist :(

Nothing ... they're actually really good for you and only like 100 calories and no fat ... I just cut out some carbs in my diet and if i dont eat potatoes then i cant eat out mostly at all :)

10lbs in that amount of time is more than likely water. only true way to tell would be with bodyfat calipers or even just measurements.

thats the gimmick we see in those weight loss ads when they say "lose 10 pounds in 10 days" or whatever. its very easy to do that as water and muscle will go like that (snaps fingers).

I think it's unfair to say that "it's water weight", but probably more accurate to say that "a lot of it is water weight". Even on the most stringent of healthy eating regimens, you can't expect to lose more than 4 lbs in a week, and that's an extreme. It's much more likely that you'll lose 1-2 lbs a week. So assuming that, we can say maybe that you lost up to 4 lbs of body weight, and 6 lbs of water weight.

Missing going to the gym for 2 days won't make you lose muscle. You could miss going to the gym for a month and not lose muscle. Though, if you're that fanatical to fret over missing two days of working out, maybe you lsot more than 4 lbs of bodyweight :)

So, to end this post, we really can't say for sure unless you've been getting your body fat % tested regularly. If you're drinking plenty-o-water, you've got nothing to worry about... so... uh... CONGRATULATIONS on losing 10 lbs!!!

But why do you loose water weight?? I mean if i'm still drinking the same amout of water, etc ...
the more you drink, the less the body will store because you are constantly supplying water to the body ;)

ya i've been doing that sugarbusters diet the last few weeks ... which to me is just cutting out potatoes and being stricter when there is leftover catering here at the office (pizza, schlotskys, etc). Sugarbusters says no refined flour and minimal sugar so it is kinda a fad diet but really its still just healthy eating ... but this week i'm cheating on the gym and the diet b/c i was tortured at the dentist mon and tues and been too busy the rest the week!

thanks!! Thats what i thought! haha I kinda felt guilty doing a "fad diet" after all we talk about on here is against fad diets hahahah but ya i felt the same way .. its healthy not a fad :)
