water temperature

just a quick question about the temperature of drinking water.

have heard conflicting information on it so if anyone knows the correct answer then please say.

1.- you should drink water at room temperature as your organs cant take it if its 2 cold or 2 hot

2.- you should drink cold water then your body uses more energy getting it 2 body temperature.

or are both of these bull***t

I always drink water at room temperature (except if I am outdoors on a hot day and need to cool off). It is very hard to gulp down 16+ ounces of water if it is not around room temperature!

It may be true that if you drink cold water your body has to expend some calories to "warm" it, but the number of calories is so little it would make little or no difference in your overall calorie consumption in a day. Of course, if it is a very hot day and your body is trying to cool itself anyways, you might actually burn fewer overall calories, since the cold water would actually aid in the needed cooling effect and save you some of the energy needed to sweat more...???

Unless it's with food, I always drink water at room temerature. Like withers said, it's just easier (for me) to gulp it down through out the day...

Probably. I think it's important for anyone trying to lose weight not to get caught up in minutia like this. Concentrate on the big things like Diet and Excercise and just drink plenty of water at what ever temperature you like.

I was thinking the same thing. There are so many other more important things to focus on that are hard enough to get straight. Any effect water temp may have is probably too small to worry about one way or the other.

Personally, I can gulp cold water and prefer it that way, and my organs seem to handle it just fine. :)
