want to loose weight! but how do I do it???

I´ve got a problem and I really need your advice: I´m a 43 old male, 5 foot 7 inches tall and I weigh over a hundred kilos ( can´t tell you exactly how much ).

you´ll agree, that a 100 kilos is way too much. I don´t like to look at myself and I start to have health problems as well. my hip and my knees are kind of worn out already. a couple of years ago I didn´t have any problems at all and I never accepted to do diets and stuff. but lately I´ve thought about it quite often and I feel, that I have to do something. but what? I feel kind of helpless, don´t know, where to start. to do sports, will be hard for me - my knees and hip..

do you have any advice for me? I appreciate any kind of tips, thanks in advance.

btw, what should I weigh anyway? is there an ideal weight for my age and height?

Ideal weight is not a good thing to get into. Ideally, you should have your own ideal weight. :)

The best thing to focus on is not your weight. I'm about half your age, but as we grow older we run the risk of becoming fatter and heavier. No biggie though. You can change all that.

The best thing is to focus on healthier living. Don't stress out too much about weight. It's not the end all, be all.

Some tips:

* Start becoming active. Do things that promote yourself being active. Don't become a "mobile couch potato." Driving in your car, for example, is not being active. Washing the dishes, folding clothes, mowing the lawn, walking to the store, etc are all examples of being "active. You don't have to be breaking a sweat, looking like Rocky gone mad in order to be active.

* Eat healthier. There are plenty of good things to eat. Apply common sense to eating, eat in moderation, eat a variety of different food, and eat a balanced meal. You don't have to count calories, or do all that funny stuff. You can read the sticky on this forum and you get a good idea of what is healthy food.

* Exercise. In addition to being active, just a moderate exercise for 15-20-30 minutes a day will help you out in the long run. You don't have to be running or doing something where your life hangs on the line (as you stated your knee hurts, so why run a risk of injury?) I recommend bikes (easy on the knee), weight lifting (good exercise overall and so many to do), ellpitical (these are extremely good as it's low impact), water running (I know rec centers have pools and they usually allow open areas for people who want to do water exercises and running in the water is great and low impact and easy and fun).

Hope that helps. Sorry if I sound vague. You're asking a very general question and it's hard to give everything without writing a novel. I highly recommend reading over, researching, and try to ask more specific questions.

Eating whole, unprocessed foods, with an emphasis on protein coupled with exercise (full body resistance training 3x a week, and interval training 2x a week) has proven beneficial for me.
