Walking a Thinner Line

I'm very excited to start a diary. I could really use some additional motivation and I think owning up to what is being done to lose weight will help me a lot.

I'm happy to share my story and I hope to be encouraging to others and to become acquainted with other people enduring the same challenges as myself.

I've never been a calorie counter but I do think it's important to keep track of what I'm eating and my exercise everyday.

Day 1: 200 lbs

Breakfast:

2 eggs (1 yolk)

Multigrain flat bread wrap

onions

tomatoes

Lettuce

v8 Fusion (Half juice half green tea)

Snack:

Multigrain crackers

Hummus

Lunch:

6 inch Subway club on Flat bread with lots of veggies and sweet onion sauce

Green Tea

Dinner: (not prepared yet)

Homemade brown rice sushi with salmon, avocado and cucumber

The condos I live in have a small fitness center which is wonderful. I have begun a new little routine which I'm enjoying so I'll stick with it for a while

First,

Sprints on the bicycle which takes about 20 minutes. I "ride" four miles usually burn a little over 100 calories.

Next,

Sprints on the treadmill for about 10-15 minutes. I haven't used a treadmill much before so I've been a little nervous about really going quickly. I walk at 2mph for one minute then increase the pace to 4mph and jog for one minute. It makes me feel good. I know it's high impact and not good for my knees so I don't stay on for very long. Usually about a half mile.

Last,

Weight loss program on an elliptical for 15 minutes. Also equivalent to 4 miles

The combination gives me approximately 240-250 calories burned.

I'm studying for my College Placement Test and I needed a new book from the library so my boyfriend and I rode our bikes there. I just googled the distant and it says it's 2 miles away. The ride is fun but is a little difficult for me. We ride up hill on the way there, it's not steep but a steady incline and the closer we get to the library the steeper the hill gets. It does make for a really fun ride home and Subway is halfway between our home and the library so we stopped and got lunch on the way back!

I'm actually headed back to the gym now to do my morning workout again and then I'll swim for a bit and "hot tub it".

I think day one was a success and I'm looking forward to continuing to work hard and also to hear from all of you! Thanks for reading!

Welcome and congrats on making the decision to change your life! We will walk this journey with you....and yes, a thinner line and a thinner us that is :):)

Hey Ge1sha! Welcome :)

I just wanted to suggest switching from multigrain crackers or flat bread to whole grain. Here's why -

"The latest dietary guidelines advise us to eat at least three servings of whole grains every day, which can help prevent things like heart disease, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes. But if you are consuming “multi-grain†products instead of “whole-grain†products, you may still be falling short of the mark. Whole grain products contain all the parts of the grain: the germ, which is rich in essential fatty acids and b-vitamins; the endosperm, which is mostly starch; and the bran, which, of course, is high in fiber. In products made with refined grains, on the other hand, most of the germ and bran have been removed, leaving the starchy endosperm, which is the least nutritious part of the grain."

Good luck on your journey!

Breakfast: Oatmeal water <---I need to drink a lot more of that. Lunch:Three bean hard shell tacos Dinner: Healthy Choice General Tsos chicken meal I did the same workout as yesterday 20 minutes worth of Sprints on the bike 20 minutes on the elliptical Wild At Heart - Hiya! Thanks so much for your kind words! We can doo it! Thanks Irish Princess! Starlillies - I really appreciate your advice concerning the whole wheat vs multigrain. I will consider it when I go shopping! Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you again!

AI wouldn't worry about whole grains vs multi grain too much. Just focus on calories and carbs. There are numerous studies that show where Americans didn't start really packing on weight until the dietary guidelines started pushing grains into our lives. I slowed down on my consumption of carbs( about 100g a day) and I'm watching the weight trickle off. Really, though, you need to find out what works for your body. :)

Yes, having less carbs is better. But if you're going to have them, why not have them unrefined and actually get the healthy part of the grain :)

Multigrain is a product that's getting around the whole grain. It has high fructose that isn't necessary
