virtual group fitness

I'm opening a new gym in a small rural town, and have an idea floating around in my head for a virtual group fitness program. Has anyone heard of a group fitness program led by a TV? In other words, I would like to schedule times where people can come and be lead by some hot new DVD workout. Anybody done this?

It's quite common actually. Comcast on Demand has various fitness shows the watcher can follow along with at the click of a button.

IMO pretty much all DVDs instructing metabolic training sessions to the viewer are the same. Sure, they each have different instructors and slightly different variations of training... but at the end of the day they all have the same impact on the body. The same impact that all metabolic training sessions have on the body.

So I don't think there is one best DVD, especially once you factor in that each viewer is unique and will therefore respond/enjoy different things.

you'd charge people for this service?

it sounds like something that owuld happen at the senior citizen's center... Let's put on a Jack LaLanne or Richard Simmons tape and get sweating...

I am not a fan of DVD's at all -i'm really not a fan of group fitness classes either but that's antoehr story combining the two would be torture - Zumba classes are taught at a lot of gyms - that started out as a DVD but now they're led by live instructors.

Unless you've got an intructor there -- who can correct people's form -and ensure they re doing the exericses the proper way - what would be the point of going out to do this when i can get a dvd for free from the library...

Downloadable programs to a person's MP3 player is a far better market but fairly saturated as well...
