Hi, I'm a 40yr food addict who has over sized assets for more years than I care to remember. Having lost 9 stone just before my 30th birthday (phentermine, no longer legal in France!!), I have since had 3 more children, and have slowly eaten my way into 5 larger dress sizes. You think I would have learnt my lesson the first time?

The 1st of January I decided to take back control of my life and I quit smoking on 15th January. Since then I have subsidized my nicotine habit with a chocolate one, so yet another stone has safely stored itself on the large thighs and already adequate bum.

I have been seeing a nutrionist and gastro-specialist for the last year, as I have been recently diagnosed with a digestion disorder, and so it was my Gastro doctor who told me that the balloon would help 3 out of 4 of my disorders and help with weight loss.

The plan, which has been on schedule, is to have the balloon fitted this Monday morning. I will then have 6 months to loose 6 stone. I am so determined that I went to the place I fear most today............the gym..............and paid for one years subscription! I really hate gyms, but my way of thinking is I have a job to do, and to acheive it I need the correct tools! At least I can tune out what people are saying about me whilst I'm there, as French isn't my first language.

I really don't want to be fat any more, especially living in a country whereby the average female is a size 8, and I just hope this proceedure makes me fall out of love with food. Quiting smoking after 25years was easy by all comparsion.

ACongrats on quitting smoking! You should be extremely proud of that. Also, you might consider starting a diary to track your exercise and progress in the diary section of the forum. Diaries are great for motivation. As it looks like you probably had your procedure done today, I wanted to say good luck to you!

Although I am across the pond, I don't think this happens. I have been going to the gym off and on for 3 years and weigh over 300 lb and have never heard a negative comment from a fellow gym-goer, aside from someone telling me my form is bad and then they teach you how. Most ignore you and those that don't are usually helpful and positive; after all you are where you need to be and they may get to witness your transformation.

Regardless, I have found headphones and some energetic music (Techno/Dubstep is what does it for me) really help me be more intense with my workouts. Not to mention you wouldn't hear any of those comments you ought not worry about. ;) I highly recommend you try it.

Thank you for your support. The procedure went well, and I'm now up and about and trying to get on with a normal life, without throwing up! It's not for the faint hearted this balloon thingy, I'm not used to being ill (up and running 24hrs after each emergency c-section!), as I have 4 kids and run my own company, I just don't have time!!

The idea of having a diary is truly great! :)
