Vegetables - how to make them more tasty?

Sprinkle your veggies with a little lemon pepper seasoning and roast them. Sometimes when I'm outta time I'll pop one of those "SteamFresh" bags into the mic and sprinkle the lemon pepper on it when it's done.

One of my favorite sides is sweet potato fries. Just slice up a sweet 'tater, put a lil canola oil on a cookie sheet, add your 'taters, and bake til they're soft/browning. They really are quite yummy! :D

Ooh, sweet potato fries are one of my favorites. I do them a little differently, though. I skip the oil and make an egg white wash (egg whites and water) and brush the potato slices with that, then sprinkle Cajun seasoning on top. Spicy and really good.

If I don't like sweet potatoes, what are the chances that I will like sweet potato fries? Does preparation change the basic consistency enough that I might like them prepared differently?

I grew up in a old world, meat and potatoes kinda household. Sweet potatoes were served once a year and were icky, mushy things. I've never gotten past my distaste for the consistency.

The idea that many people have of sweet potatoes is Thanksgiving with melted marshmallows on the top. Not much there to like, as far as I'm concerned. I'd say give it a try and if you don't like it, give it to the dog. I've found that many of the vegetables that I didn't like as a kid, those are my favorites as an adult.

Sweet potatoes were one of those things I never touched becuase my only experience with them was mashed with chunks of pineapple, raisins and marshmallows - absolutely revolting stuff...

A baked sweet potato is quite nice however...

I prefer them cut into chunks -splashed with some olive oil and garlic and roasted like I would with new potatoes... Really tasty stuff... but as fries with some cayenne pepper, or garam masala or hot curry powder is also really good...

Thanks guys...I may have to revisit sweet potatoes. Do you usually start with fresh? Do you peel them?

I'm the worlds laziest person - on a good day -- I will wash the vegetables -peeling them - not gonna happen.. its a little extra fiber besides.. it's not a tough skin.. and as long as it's washed - and if any eyes poking out are removed - it's all good.

but it could be personal preference - some people find tha the skin is a little musty -depending onhow long the taters have been sitting aorund in the bin..

:iagree:You so read my mind! ;)

Thanks again. I usually prefer to eat my regular potatoes with the skin so I suppose I would like sweet potato skin too.
