Utterly Distraught

Hey Everyone,

I am a 25 yr old from New York City and at my wits end! I have tried so many things to help me get back to me goal weight of 113.

I am now 131! and practically busting out of my size 6 pants. I cannot believe this happened to me, i was so fit at one point.

I need help, any help, I have been trying to lose this weight for over 4 months now and have not lost a single pound.

I came to this site for support and advice, nothing seems to be working then again , I am obsessed with food its all I think about.

I am starting a new regimen tomorrow, Monday, and am so scared that i wont be able to do this, that it will be too hard.

I need all the good vibes I can get and any ideas and advice would be welcomed with open arms.

can i ask how many calories are you eating? are you always obsessed with food and constantly thinking about it or just when you are trying to lose weight?

thanks for the quick reply!!
Well I am mostly obsessive about it when I want to lose weight, but if I am not on a diet kick then I am not too obsessive about it however, food is all I think about . If I am eating breakfast I am already thinking about what I will eat for lunch. I like to eat, I like to eat food not junk. Like meals.

Well for the past month I have been doing Weight Watchers to no avail.
I was allowed 22 points and 35 weekly bonus points. I found I was eating based on points not on how healthy the food is for me. I usually go for "what will satisfy me?" and I would guess I am definitely eating too many calories.

I would only do 25 to 30 mins cardio and no weight training.

Tomorrow I plan to change this completely.

I am just so scared I wont even be able to make it through the day without "cheating"

i was actually wondering if you weren't eating enough. when we don't each enough we can easily become obsessed with food. i've never done ww but i've heard that many people who do it end up focusing on points rather than nutrition. they do seem to recommend pretty low calories from what i can tell. i did a quiz once with them and their recommendation for me was to exist on very very little. i would try counting your calories and see how that goes. definately add weight training, think it helps soooo much.

I know a big thing to really shed the pounds was to stop drinking except on the weekends. I know every time I venture to NYC I'm hitting up like every bar I see.

thank you so much,
the funny thing is when i was single and hitting the bars 4x a wek i was THINNER!
Now I have a great bf, but I am 15lbs heavier , we rarely go out drinking maybe one or two on the weekends but not even every week.

I just love food so much, the taste of it.
I usually dont seem full until my taste buds are satsfied if that makes sense.

but I am going to cut out all alcohol for the next 2 weeks any way when i start the strict 2 week phase of my diet.

Hi k2,

Welcome to the board. I'm a NY'er too.

Do you work out? Cardio can help burn calories. Just wondering because you didn't mention that. And if you feel WW isn't working it is a good thing that you dropped it. What works for some may not work for others.

I don't know what to tell you about your obsession. Are you hungry most of the day? I find that when I am full, I don't think about food at all.

Could you maybe classify yourself as Compulsive Eater or food addict ...

You sound a lot like what I used to do and I am a food addict. Just like smoking, drinking, we can have an addiction for food. Food sets of certain chemicals, as well as tastes good and these chemicals create a euphoria kind of thing.

One of the ways you know you are a food addict is you think about food all the time, the next meal. You never let yourself get trully hungry. You are triggered by anything that says "food" and feel hunger pains, even though you are not hungry. Usually you might feel ashamed about overeating ... guilt association, because you might gain weight from it ...

Food can be harmfull if it is too ..way too much ...

message me if you would like to know more ..

You may have heard this before, but when I'm tempted to eat I drink a big glass of water. I'm not usually hungry after that. Also, try a couple days of weight training if you're doing cardio at the gym. I go to the gym too (just started recently) but can't seem to get there more than 3 days a week. I'm getting more determined as summer is getting closer!

I have read this thread and I feel like you are talking about me hahaha
I actually quit drinking a little over a year ago and I GAINED WEIGHT! When my best friend stopped she dropped like 25 lbs!!! I dont know what the deal is!
Ive even considered allowing myself to drink more since I think that when I have a glass of wine Im less inclined to get the sampler or french fries and for some reason Im super active when Im out dancing and I have a drink.... Probably not an entirely healthy outlook, but geez.....
But yeah, I feel like I always obsess about what I eat, but I eat so healthy and I love to cook and surround myself with nice things and fine food is something I have come to really enjoy as Ive gotten older! I dunno.....
Learn anything off this forum yet? Or do you want to partner up and keep track? I am very serious about this stuff..... so hopefully you are too! ^_^
