upsetting.....what are your views

Today me and my teamate went weightlifting at the neighboring YMCA. We were just doing our sets and routines when a worker asked how old are you guys?..Well we told him 17, he said im going to have to aask you guys to leave because we are not 18 and you have to be 18 to use the free weights. I dont think we should have been kicked out...we weightlift just as hard if not harder then anyone else there and we do not goof off or anything. Do you think there should be an age ban of 18 or higher?...i dont no i guess i can see y they have it seeing as kids dont really know to much and could get injured...but highschool athletes are very strickly trained in weightlifting.

Its a tricky subject, cos If they lower it to 16, then the 15year olds would be pi55ed off about not being able to.

I would hate to have young idiots messing about in the gym, but if there are younger guys who are serious then there shouldnt be a problem.

I believe that there should be a "young gym users licence" that you can achieve by taking a short exam. Maybe just 10questions about how to use the gym and posture.

Thinking about it, It would be a good idea for everyone to do that, 70% of the people in my gym dont have a clue what they are doing. There are small groups of 18-20 year olds in my gym that are fine, but its the 30-40 year old groups that are loud and never replace the weights they use.

18 is a legal age in which, legally, you become resposible for many things. 18 is the cuttoff age for many American endeavors. It's good that you were represtenting the younger age well, but that's not really the issue. In a few months, you'll be 18, so don't sweat it too much. Either that or lie next time they ask you.

Yeah I feel what your talking about. I was 16 at the time, when my friend was 18. He took me to this recreation center that charged 4 dollars for a day use. No problem, but what I didn't know was that when all I wanted to do was just use a few machines, they approached me and asked my age. Of course being the honest type I said 16, then they kicked me out. Got my money back though, but I know how it goes and it sucks. About 4 months later went back there again. I was then asked for my age, I said 18, they asked for birthdate, and I was quick with it. I then just turned around and went on with my business. Like ^^ said, just lie and say 18, make sure your quick to give them a birthdate that proves your 18, and be quick about it. Don't get shy or nervous, look at them like there punkasses, and just go on with your business.

I think the license was a great idea, but since younger kids have built a reputation for being little ****s cause there "young" which I find to be retarded since you do have the mature ones, I can see where it may be diffacult for them. I just say you must sign a release form, parent/gaurdian approved, and off you go. Your life isn't in there hands. Ha.

It all has to do with liability.

Unless you sign a legal waiver, which a minor cannot do since its a legal contract, if you get hurt, they are liable to be sued. It sucks, but thats the legal system for ya.

Yeah, lie if you can get away with it. If it just so happens that you get caught by da police, its not your fault. They should have asked to see some ID.
All they can do is kick you out.

I work out at the local YMCA as well, and the age limit is about 13 or older.

Punch that guy in the dick.

YMCAs are different. They are a not for profit organization, and as long as they offer education classes, can't be held liable for injuries like that.
