Upper Abs Sore; Lower Abs Nuthin'

A week-and-a-half into this program and I can feel progress in all parts except my lower abs.....the problem area. Ditto for my obliques.

Suggested workout for my lower abs? Or might this be something where I'm burning fat off my abs and until then I won't feel much progress in that area?

Thanks!

hitting the lower abs is probably the hardest area. crunches don't really work them.
hanging leg raises do, to a degree.

what I always feel is when I do reverse crunches.
lay on a bench, flat on your back, with your hips right at the end. swing your legs up in the air so you look like a big L shape.

now, focusing on only using your abs, lift your hips up just a couple inches, squeeze, then in a controlled move put yer hips back down. repeat.

Try lying on a slant board. Hips being lower than your head. Use a small medicine ball, hold it in between your knees. Bend Hips and knees at 90 degree angles. Curl as high as you can but keeping shoulders firm on slant board. This should definitely work the lower abs very well.

You cannot seperate working one portion of the abs without working the entire abdominal area. What it is is that the lower on the sections of abdominal wall you go the larger the percentage of slower-twitch fibers and the less they are sensitive to lactate (lactic acid). This is why you feel the "burn" predominately in the "upper" abs but not the "lower" abs.

Oh okay. Thanks....that's some good info. So really I could be working off this "spare tire" and not really know it, correct? A lack of soreness doesn't necessarily mean I'm not working them....right?

ya. try to vary your ab workout and try lots of diffrent things. I have written up a good core workout on the bodybuilding FAQ in the bodybuilding forum.
